The Masconomet Regional High School gymnastics team entered the 2024–25 season with one goal: to not finish second again. And from the very first meet against powerhouse Danvers-Lynnfield, it was clear—this year’s team was on a mission. Key Contributors Rise to the Challenge Led by standout Team Captain Fallon Eberhardt, the Chieftains found depth and determination in every corner of the roster. Supporting Fallon were consistent top performers like Janey Young, Kate Mugge, Sarah Aldrich, Ava Nolan, and Natalia Caffarelli. “They all stepped up and made a huge impact,” said Head Coach Vasko Vetzev. “And truly, every girl on the team contributed in a meaningful way.” Fighting Through Adversity Despite battling injuries—including Fallon’s knee and Sarah missing three meets—the team never lost focus. “The next girl was always ready,” Coach Vetzev said. “This team didn’t let setbacks define them. They responded with resilience every single time.” A Defining Start The season’s tone was set early in a pivotal matchup against Danvers-Lynnfield. “After finishing second at States last year, the girls made it clear in that first meet—they weren’t settling this time,” said Vetzev. That attitude carried through every practice, every meet, and every routine. Emerging Stars and Steady Leadership Several gymnasts stepped into bigger roles as the season progressed, including Ava Nolan, Sarah Aldrich, Kate Mugge, and Janey Young. “I could count on them every meet to do their best and make sure the team was ready,” said Vetzev. Even with senior Meri sidelined by injury, the senior class—Fallon, Natalia, and Meri—was a pillar of leadership. “They were amazing for the younger girls,” Vetzev noted. “After tough events or a rough routine, they were there picking teammates up and keeping the energy positive.” Looking Ahead: New Captains, Same High Standards The future of Masco gymnastics looks bright. Returning gymnasts Sarah Aldrich, Janey Young, Kate Mugge, and Carly have already been named captains for the upcoming season and are motivated to chase another State title. “They were already fired up at the end of this season,” said Coach Vetzev. “I can’t wait to see what they do.” Offseason Focus To repeat as champions, Coach Vetzev hopes to add depth through recruits and reduce the load on key gymnasts. “We’re looking to build out the team a little more—spread the pressure and keep everyone fresh.”
