Key Contributors This Season Several players stepped up in big ways this season, laying the foundation for our team’s growth. Abigail Tillson, named 2nd Team All-District, led the team in scoring with 7.5 points per game. She also served as our point guard and a vocal leader on and off the floor. Miracal Wilson, Honorable Mention All-District, was a defensive anchor who evolved throughout the season, averaging 6.2 points per game while becoming our lock-down defender. Addison Tillson was leading the team in scoring at 7.9 points per game before an unfortunate surgery ended her season midway through district play. Her early-season impact was pivotal to our team’s competitiveness. Season Overview This was a rebuilding year for McKinney Girls Basketball. While the win/loss record wasn’t where we wanted it, the season was defined by growth and perseverance. Competing against more experienced and older teams, we had to work through turnover issues and scoring inconsistency. However, our players showed steady improvement, and by the latter half of the season, we were much more competitive—an encouraging sign for the future. Defining Moments A true turning point came in our first game against McKinney Boyd. Down 17 points, the team rallied and pushed the game to the wire. Though we didn’t come away with the win, it was a statement game, showing our resilience, heart, and potential. That performance set the tone for the fight we brought all season long. Player Development Several players made impressive strides during the year. Miracal Wilson went from limited minutes to leading the team in floor time, becoming a key contributor in both scoring and rebounding. Esther Kiija made a leap as well, evolving from one of the last players off the bench to a consistent presence in the rotation, even earning a few starts through her hustle and competitive edge. Responding to Challenges The season wasn’t without adversity—injuries and tough losses tested our resolve. However, our team stayed focused and level-headed. Instead of dwelling on outcomes, we honed in on areas we could control: improving offensive rebounding, reducing turnovers, and celebrating incremental wins. This mentality helped us grow with every game. Senior Class Impact Our seniors brought a contagious energy that was felt in every practice and game. Whether they were starting or leading from the bench, they provided motivation, focus, and set a tone of positivity. Their leadership created a culture of effort and encouragement that will benefit our returning players for seasons to come. Looking Ahead Next season is full of promise. Unlike this past year, we’ll return a core group with valuable varsity experience. Only four players came in with experience last year—just three played major minutes. In contrast, our upcoming roster will be seasoned and better prepared for the intensity of district competition. That continuity and experience excite us as we look to build on this year’s foundation. Offseason Goals We’ll be focusing on three critical areas this offseason: Handling pressure with the ball Scoring off the dribble Improving overall shooting efficiency These skills will be vital to our offensive development and competitiveness next season.
