As the Moorefield High School golf team prepares for the upcoming season, Head Coach V. Kevin Reed is focused on refining skills, fostering team chemistry, and building a strong foundation for success. With a mix of experienced players and emerging talent, the team is looking forward to an exciting year on the course. Offseason Focus The primary focus this offseason has been improving lag putting and eliminating three-putts. Players have been working diligently on their short game to enhance consistency and lower scores. Special Offseason Events The team has been actively participating in events designed to improve performance and encourage team bonding: Spring Training Rounds – Players have been meeting weekly at local courses to refine their game and develop better course strategies. Regional Golf Clinics – Several players have attended skill development clinics to fine-tune mechanics and gain exposure to high-level competition. Summer Invitational Tournaments – A select group of players will compete in invitational tournaments across the state, providing valuable experience before the regular season. Key Player to Watch With a mix of returning talent and new faces, Moorefield has several players poised for standout seasons: Drake Kimble – Played #1 last year as a junior and is expected to be one of the top players in the area for 2025. Notable Additions & Departures The team will be replacing two four-year seniors but retains a strong nucleus of returning players. Strength and Conditioning Golf fitness plays a key role in the team’s preparation, focusing on core stability, flexibility, and endurance. Strength training programs have been introduced to improve swing power and prevent injuries. Nutrition and Wellness Coach Reed emphasizes the importance of proper nutrition for peak performance. Players are encouraged to stay hydrated, eat balanced meals, and maintain energy levels during long tournaments. Healthy snacking and hydration strategies have been implemented to optimize focus and endurance. Coaching Strategy and Community Engagement Moorefield High School plans to play a much more difficult schedule this season, challenging the team by competing on a variety of courses. The program is also actively involved in the local community, hosting youth clinics to introduce the next generation to golf. These events allow high school players to serve as mentors while fostering a culture of sportsmanship and growth. Challenges and Outlook The team competes in a difficult region with several outstanding programs. However, the focus remains on making significant strides to become more competitive both within the region and statewide. With a dedicated group of players, a strong support system, and a commitment to excellence, Moorefield High School golf is set for an exciting and competitive 2025 season.
