Myrtle Beach Boys Basketball 2025 Season Recap: A Journey of Growth, Grit, and Rising Momentum
For the Myrtle Beach High School Boys Basketball team, the 2025 winter season was more than just a series of games—it was a testament to perseverance, leadership, and the strength of a team built on steady development. Under the guidance of Head Coach Eric Lyons, the Seahawks turned a challenging start into a season filled with character-defining moments, individual progress, and a strong playoff push.
Now three years into leading the program, Coach Lyons is beginning to see the fruits of his vision: a team growing in confidence, surrounded by increased community enthusiasm, and most importantly, built on a foundation of strong leadership and resilience.
Building Momentum After a Slow Start
The season didn’t begin in the smoothest fashion. Due to the deep postseason run of the Myrtle Beach football team, many basketball players who double as football standouts joined the hardwood late, causing a delayed start in team chemistry and preparation.
“We started the season a little slow,” Coach Lyons admitted. “We were getting many of our players back late from football. But once we settled in, the guys found their rhythm, especially as we moved into region play.”
That rhythm paid off, as the Seahawks got off to a strong start in regional competition. While the second half of the region brought new challenges and required the team to regroup, Myrtle Beach found its footing and ultimately advanced to the third round of the playoffs—a significant achievement and a sign that the program is on the rise.
Senior Leadership That Set the Standard
Every successful program needs a strong core of leaders, and for the 2025 Myrtle Beach squad, that leadership came from John Simmons, James Watson, and Matthew Campbell.
“These three were absolutely vital to our success,” said Coach Lyons. “They provided leadership every day—not just in games, but in practice, in the locker room, and in how they carried themselves. They set the tone.”
What makes their contribution even more meaningful is the journey they’ve taken. As sophomores, this core group was thrust into starting roles with limited upperclassman guidance. They endured their share of growing pains, but instead of wilting under pressure, they used those early struggles as a blueprint for how to lead.
“Those experiences shaped them,” Coach Lyons explained. “They took the bumps and bruises, learned from them, and helped guide this team back to the playoffs in both their junior and senior years.”
Their impact is lasting, not just in wins and stats, but in the culture and standard they’ve established for the younger players who will carry the torch next.
Breakout Players and Key Growth
While the senior leaders were the anchors, several players emerged over the course of the season to take on bigger roles and help elevate the team’s overall performance.
Duke Brown made the biggest leap in development, stepping up to provide critical depth and becoming a more reliable presence on both ends of the court.
“Duke really showed the most improvement this year,” said Lyons. “He gave us consistency and helped solidify our rotations.”
JT Miller became a spark off the bench—an energy player whose presence shifted the tempo of games and gave the Seahawks an edge during crucial moments.
Jamarcus Carroll lit up the scoreboard as an offensive spark, while Ethan Lyons brought tenacious perimeter defense that helped the team in lockdown moments.
Together, this group provided key support and versatility, enabling Coach Lyons to experiment with rotations, cover for injuries, and maintain a competitive edge in pressure situations.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Every season comes with its share of obstacles, whether it's injuries, losses, or high-pressure moments. But for the Seahawks, adversity became a rallying cry.
“This group responded to every setback with maturity and focus,” said Coach Lyons. “They didn’t let anything break them. If anything, it made them more determined.”
It was that attitude—of learning from each game and committing to improvement—that carried them through the season and helped them make their playoff run.
“We took it one game at a time,” he added. “Every game was an opportunity to learn and grow, and the players really embraced that mindset.”
The Future Is Bright
As the 2025 season comes to a close, Coach Lyons is filled with optimism. The foundation has been set. The culture has been planted. And the excitement around the Myrtle Beach program is growing—not just within the team, but throughout the school and community.
“This completes our third year with the program,” Lyons shared. “And it’s clear there’s more excitement and participation than ever before. The momentum is building.”
He’s especially encouraged by the young talent returning for next season, many of whom saw significant minutes and gained valuable experience under pressure. With the blueprint left by this year’s senior class, the future core has strong shoulders to stand on.
Offseason Focus: Culture and Cohesion
Looking ahead, the Seahawks have their eyes on key areas for improvement. At the top of the list is continuing to build a positive, winning culture—something Coach Lyons sees as just as important as Xs and Os.
“Culture comes before wins,” he said. “We want to continue building a program where players are accountable, work hard, and push each other to get better every day.”
On the court, the team will be focusing on sharpening fundamentals, building offensive chemistry, and developing even more depth.
“There's plenty to be excited about,” Lyons concluded. “If we keep working, stay together, and continue to believe in our process, the best is yet to come.”
