Nova Classical Academy Baseball Team Preview

As the Nova Classical Academy baseball team prepares for the upcoming season, Head Coach Scott Lindholm has set clear goals: fostering joyful cohesion, achieving success, and encouraging growth both as players and individuals. The team looks to build on its strengths while overcoming key challenges in depth and roster availability.  

Key Returning Players

Leading the squad this season are several standout returning players who bring experience and leadership: Rowan Flood (Junior, 2B/CF/P/C): A dynamic athlete who elevates the team's performance whenever he's on the field. An ideal leadoff hitter with excellent versatility. Will Choi (Junior, 3B/P): A powerful hitter known for his "loud bat," Choi is expected to be a major offensive force this season. Mikko Newman (Junior, SS/P, Captain): A steady leader with patience and a smooth playing style, Newman will anchor the infield while providing veteran guidance. James Williams (Senior, CF/P, Captain): A vocal and positive leader, Williams brings energy to both the outfield and the pitching staff.  

New Faces to Watch

The roster is still shaping up, but sophomore left fielder Abe Brady is a promising newcomer who could make an immediate impact.

Coach Lindholm emphasizes integrity, joy, responsibility, hunger, and support in selecting team leaders. Newman and Williams have earned the captain roles, setting a standard for the rest of the squad. The team fosters camaraderie through off-field bonding activities, including attending Twins, Saints, and Gophers games, ensuring strong player connections.

The biggest challenge for the team will be maintaining depth, especially at the catcher position, and managing limited financial and transportation resources. Despite these hurdles, Nova Classical Academy is committed to competing at a high level.

Coach Lindholm, who teaches Sports Psychology, places a strong emphasis on the mental side of baseball. His approach has evolved over the years, now prioritizing a calm, holistic perspective that values every player on the roster, not just the top-end talent.

A recent focus on tissue preparation and recovery has significantly reduced injuries over the past two seasons, helping players stay in peak condition throughout the year.

However, depth remains a challenge, particularly at the catcher position, where the team lacks experienced backups. Attendance issues due to multi-sport commitments also present hurdles in maintaining consistency throughout the season. Despite these obstacles, the team is focused on making strategic adjustments and player development efforts to maximize its potential and remain competitive in a tough conference.
