As the 2025 season approaches, the Owsley County High School Girls Golf team has its sights set on more than just improving—this group is hungry to bring home another 14th Region All "A" Classic Championship. With a strong core returning, a tight-knit team culture, and a strategic focus on the little things that win matches, Head Coach Kyle Bobrowski believes this could be a special year. Offseason Focus: Sharpening the Short Game Coach Bobrowski isn’t leaving any strokes to chance this offseason. The team is dialed in on two main areas: short game control—specifically avoiding three-putts—and increasing swing speed. These are the small, technical improvements that can lead to big results on the scorecard. Team Bonding & Community Events: A Master's-Style Experience In addition to their annual golf scramble fundraiser, the team is planning a Master ''' s-style dinner fundraiser in the fall—an event that will blend community support, team celebration, and a touch of golf tradition. Off the course, many of the girls also play basketball and spend time together socially, which builds trust and chemistry year-round. Roster Consistency: Familiar Faces, High Expectations There are no major roster or coaching changes this season, giving the team a solid foundation of familiarity and experience. That continuity could prove valuable as they chase their ninth 14th Region All "A" title and aim to add to their two 11th Region Championships. Players to Watch: Ready for a Breakout Four players are stepping into the spotlight this season: Kenzie Grubb Delaney Smith Harley Dooley Kiley Taylor Each has shown significant offseason progress, and with a shared team goal of winning regionals, expect them to lead the charge. Fitness Focus: Stronger Swings, Lasting Stamina Offseason workouts are underway in the weight room, designed to increase swing speed and improve stamina. It’s all part of a bigger plan to help the girls compete at a higher level over full rounds and multi-day tournaments. Coaching Approach: Fun Meets Fundamentals Coach Bobrowski brings a student-of-the-game mindset to the team, blending modern coaching methods with a focus on enjoying the game. “Top female golfers today emphasize quality shots and having fun,” he said. “It’s important to manage pressure and keep the game enjoyable—especially at this level.” Community Support: Small Town, Big Backing Based out of Sag Hollow Golf Course, the team is backed by a loyal, golf-loving community and a school that’s active in media engagement. “We’re fortunate to have strong support from both our administration and our town,” said Bobrowski. Challenges Ahead: Funding the Vision While passion and teamwork are abundant, fundraising remains an ongoing challenge. Rising costs and limited resources at small schools are a constant hurdle. Still, Owsley County continues to find creative ways to rally support and keep the program thriving.
