Play1 Team Offseason Spotlight: Payson High School Girls Soccer Offseason Focus The Payson Lions are focusing on reigniting passion for the game and building a solid foundation for the future. Coach Kindrick is working to increase overall interest in the sport, strengthen determination, and boost technical skills—with an emphasis on developing a deeper love of the game throughout the roster.  Special Offseason Events The team is engaging in summer open play and conditioning sessions, held most mornings at the high school. These sessions are designed to improve fitness, foster team bonding, and build consistency on and off the field.  Notable Additions & Departures The core coaching staff—Coach Kindrick, Josh, and Chad—returns this season, bringing continuity to the program. However, Maggie and Ashley will not be returning due to personal commitments, including pregnancy. New additions Tristan Wright and Summer Anderson will be joining the staff and focusing on the development of the Freshman/Sophomore team. Players to Watch Brooklyn Sperry – A four-year starter at goalkeeper entering her senior season; her experience and leadership are vital to the team’s success. Lauren Kimmel, Sydney Muhlstein, Genna Mills, and Jaque Morales – A core group of juniors who have grown together through club play and bring valuable chemistry and cohesion to the team. Incoming Freshmen – A large and promising group of first-year players expected to contribute immediately and bolster the roster depth. Weight Lifting & Fitness The coaching staff emphasizes getting players to increase their time on the field through extra training sessions, club involvement, camps, and tournament travel. The goal is to get players engaged in the game outside of regular practice to accelerate their development.  Coaching Perspective The approach is back to the fundamentals. In a region still developing its soccer identity, the focus remains on mastering basics—touch, passing, dribbling, and finishing. Coach Kindrick is committed to growing the program from the ground up with these essential building blocks. Fan Engagement & Community Impact The program benefits from a tight-knit support system that includes involved parents, a dedicated coaching staff, and strong backing from school administration. This unity creates a positive environment where the players can thrive and community pride is fostered. Biggest Challenges Ahead Payson is moving into a new 5A region, facing established and highly competitive programs. The transition will be a test of the team’s growth, requiring resilience, adaptability, and strong leadership to navigate the step up in competition.
