Portville Cheer Shines in 2025: A Season of Growth, Spirit, and Unforgettable Moments
At Portville Central School, the 2025 winter cheerleading season was more than just sideline chants and halftime routines—it was a story of leadership, resilience, growth, and heart. Under the guidance of Coach Tiffany Gagliardo, the Portville cheer squad turned challenges into triumphs, developing not only their technical skills but also the kind of team bond that elevates every performance.
In a sport that doesn’t keep stats like tackles or goals, progress is often measured in spirit, execution, and unity—and by that measure, this season was a standout success.
As part of our 2025 Winter Season Recap Series, we spoke with Coach Gagliardo, who shared her reflections on a year full of defining moments, rising leaders, and big dreams for the future.
Leadership That Sets the Tone
Every successful season has its leaders—the ones who show up early, stay late, and make sure everything in between runs smoothly. For Portville, that meant Nataeh Richardson and Izzy Laurich, the team’s captains, who played pivotal roles in the squad’s day-to-day operations and overall spirit.
“These two worked hard to ensure that the run-through banners were completed for every game, creating a strong sense of unity,” Coach Gagliardo noted. “They also made sure that every team member was prepared, helping others develop the skills and confidence needed to perform.”
Their leadership wasn't just about routines and logistics—it was about setting a standard, leading by example, and creating an environment where every team member could thrive.
A Season Full of Energy and Growth
Reflecting on the season as a whole, Coach Gagliardo described it as one full of meaningful progress.
“Our stunts were moderate, but we made great progress by learning new skills at summer camp,” she said. “We incorporated those into interactive games with the crowd, and the crowd involvement this year was a major highlight. It brought so much energy to every game.”
The team’s performances were marked by strong, deliberate movement and a commanding presence that impressed both spectators and judges. Even in the face of adversity, the athletes kept pushing forward, finding creative ways to engage the crowd and keep morale high.
A Defining Moment at New Era Field
Perhaps the most memorable experience of the season came under rainy skies at New Era Field, where the team had the unique opportunity to perform on a professional stage.
“It was an incredible experience,” Coach Gagliardo said. “Even though it rained, the excitement and energy never faded. While we wished we could’ve done more stunting, the wet ground made it difficult. Still, it was a bittersweet and emotional moment—especially for our seniors.”
For the graduating class, it marked a milestone, a celebration, and a farewell all wrapped into one unforgettable afternoon.
Rising Stars: Juniors Step Up
While the seniors brought fire and joy to the team, younger members were quietly growing into leadership roles of their own. Two juniors in particular, Annabella and Sarah, emerged as important pillars for the future.
“They really grew into bigger roles as the season went on,” Coach Gagliardo shared. “They developed stronger relationships with the squad and often took initiative to help others break down skills or offer extra guidance. That type of leadership is so important for team growth.”
With their natural ability to connect and support their peers, these two are poised to become key contributors not just in skill but in culture and spirit as well.
Facing Challenges with Resilience
Cheerleading is physically demanding, and this season had its share of injuries and high-pressure situations. But true to form, the Portville squad responded with determination and heart.
“Through tears and fears, we adjusted when injuries forced changes,” Coach Gagliardo said. “We moved people around, found better placements, and kept the routines strong. Morale dipped at times, but it always bounced back because the team leaned on each other.”
And it wasn’t just emotional strength—the results spoke for themselves. With each adjustment, the team’s performance scores improved, a testament to their resilience and adaptability.
Seniors Leave Their Mark
The senior class of 2025 will be remembered not just for their skill but for the dynamic energy they brought to every practice, performance, and post-game celebration.
“They brought an irreplaceable dynamic,” Coach Gagliardo said. “Their ability to feed off each other during key moments—laughing, dancing, even crying—created a team atmosphere that was truly special. They infused the season with heart, humor, and unforgettable performances.”
As they graduate and move on, their legacy remains—one of camaraderie, dedication, and a passion for cheer that will ripple through future squads.
The Road Ahead: New Skills and New Opportunities
Looking to the future, Coach Gagliardo is optimistic and energized. With a strong core of returning athletes, the program is positioned for even more growth.
“Cheer is always evolving,” she said. “There’s no cookie-cutter routine, which means we always have something new to learn. The returning team brings a great foundation of skills, and I’m excited to continue growing with them.”
This offseason, the focus will be on building strength, learning new cheers and stunts, and honing the sharpness and creativity that set Portville apart. The goal is clear: to deliver fresh, engaging routines that both challenge the athletes and thrill the crowd.
The Bigger Picture
While cheerleading may not track stats in the traditional sense, its impact is undeniable. “There’s no tackles, no goals—just increasing scores and decreasing deductions,” Coach Gagliardo noted. “But what really counts is the growth we see in confidence, in teamwork, and in spirit.”
That growth was evident in every Portville routine this season—in the synchronized movements, in the smiles shared during crowd engagement, and in the quiet moments backstage where teammates supported each other through injury, frustration, and triumph.
Conclusion: A Season to Remember
The 2025 winter cheer season at Portville Central School was more than successful—it was transformational. Fueled by strong leadership, unwavering resilience, and a love for the sport, the team created memories that will last a lifetime and laid a foundation for even greater achievements ahead.
As the team heads into the offseason, one thing is clear: the spirit of Portville Cheer is alive and thriving—and the best is yet to come.
