As the head coach of the baseball team at Prince Avenue Christian School, Coach Doug Jones is gearing up for another exciting season. With a strong group of returning players and some promising new additions, the team is looking to make its mark in the competitive world of high school baseball. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Jones was quick to name a few standouts. "We have a great group of returning players who are going to play a crucial role in our success this season," he says. "One player to watch out for is Judson Hartwell. He's a versatile player who can play multiple positions and has a great bat. Luke Burnett is another player who will make a big impact. He's a solid pitcher and a strong hitter. Hudson Hill and Cole Broxton are also returning players who bring a lot of skill and experience to the team. And finally, Drew Payne is a strong leader who always gives 110% on the field." What sets these players apart from the rest is their dedication and hard work. They have been playing together for a few years now and have developed strong chemistry on and off the field. "They have a great understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses," Coach Jones explains. "This makes them a cohesive unit and gives us an edge over our opponents." While the returning players will be the backbone of the team, Coach Jones also has high hopes for the new players who will be joining the team this season. "We have some promising new additions who I believe will make an immediate impact," he says. "Judson Hartwell, Luke Burnett, Hudson Hill, Cole Broxton, and Drew Payne are all players to watch out for. They bring a lot of talent and energy to the team, and I have no doubt they will contribute to our success this season." As with any sports team, preparing for a new season comes with its own set of challenges. For the Prince Avenue Christian School baseball team, the biggest challenge this year has been the shortened time frame to get the team ready for competition. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team had limited practice time and had to adapt quickly to get ready for the season. "We had to make the most of the time we had," Coach Jones explains. "The players had to be focused and give their best effort in every practice to make up for the lost time. But I am proud to say that they rose to the challenge and have been working hard to reach their full potential." The team's schedule this season includes some tough opponents, which Coach Jones believes will only make the team stronger. "We have a challenging schedule this year, but I believe it will prepare us for the playoffs," he says. "We have some tough opponents, including our region rivals, who are always competitive. I am looking forward to seeing our team rise to the challenge and showcase their skills on the field." To prepare for the season, the team has made some changes and improvements to their training and conditioning program. Coach Jones emphasizes the importance of physical and mental conditioning for his players. "We have implemented a new strength and conditioning program that focuses on building strength, speed, and agility," he says. "We also emphasize the importance of mental conditioning. Baseball is a game of failure, and it's essential for our players to learn how to manage their emotions and stay focused throughout the game." In addition to physical and mental conditioning, the team also places a strong emphasis on team culture and chemistry. "We want our players to not only be good athletes but also good men," Coach Jones explains. "We encourage them to be leaders on and off the field and to always treat each other with respect and support. This team culture has been a key factor in our success in the past, and we will continue to foster it this season." As the team prepares for their upcoming season, Coach Jones is confident that they will be able to reach their goals. "Our goal is to reach our full potential and to play our best baseball when it matters the most," he says. "I have no doubt that this team has what it takes to achieve that. They have the talent, the drive, and the determination to succeed, and I am excited to see what they will accomplish this season."
