Reservoir High School Girls Varsity Basketball: A Stellar 2025 Winter Season Recap
As the 2025 winter sports season wrapped up, Coach Deb Taylor, Head Coach of the Reservoir High School Varsity Girls Basketball team, took a moment to reflect on an outstanding year for the team. With remarkable leadership, historic achievements, and a bright future ahead, the Reservoir girls have truly made their mark.
Leadership That Sets the Tone
One of the cornerstones of the season’s success was the leadership provided by senior captains Alissa Young and Jasmin Shelton. Coach Taylor emphasized the invaluable role these two played, noting their impact not only through performance on the court but also by fostering a positive team culture. “We had excellent leadership from our two senior starters and captains, Alissa and Jasmin. Our team chemistry was excellent, and the girls genuinely enjoyed being around each other.”
The team’s chemistry was further strengthened by extensive offseason training, which helped the players develop their skill sets across all key positions. This preparation proved pivotal in setting the stage for what would become the best season in the school’s history.
A Season of Outstanding Achievement
In terms of results, the season was nothing short of spectacular. Reservoir secured its second consecutive Regional Championship and set a new school record with 20 wins—the most in school history. Coach Taylor was proud of what the team accomplished, describing the year simply as “outstanding.”
This level of achievement was no accident but the result of dedication, teamwork, and smart preparation. “We were shaped by our work in the offseason and our first Regional Championship last year; we knew we could reach those heights again,” said Taylor.
Players Rising to the Occasion
While the senior captains were expected to lead—and they did—several other players stepped up impressively as the season progressed. Junior guards Leah Lauer and Chloe Nguena, along with freshman forward Sam Feher, grew into vital contributors on the team.
Coach Taylor highlighted these players’ contributions as key to the team’s continued success. Their development signaled a promising future, with younger players already demonstrating readiness to fill big roles in the coming seasons.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
No season is without challenges, and the Reservoir girls showed resilience when confronted with injuries, tough losses, and pressure-filled situations. Coach Taylor noted the team’s ability to bounce back quickly after setbacks, including wins against strong county contenders like Howard (for the second straight year) and River Hill on the road.
This mental toughness and ability to persevere under pressure will serve the team well moving forward.
Senior Class Contributions Beyond Stats
The team roster featured five seniors, with Alissa Young and Jasmin Shelton earning All-County honors. Beyond the stars, seniors Daniela Timothy, Ashleen Kaur, and Asiana Pearson brought much-needed energy, hard work, and crucial minutes in games. Their positivity and dedication contributed to the overall success and culture of the program.
Looking Ahead: A Bright Future
Despite the bittersweet loss of Alissa and Jasmin to graduation, Coach Taylor is excited about the future. The work ethic among the returning players is “outstanding,” and the team expects to remain competitive. Junior guards Leah Lauer, Chloe Nguena, and junior guard Sanaya Strothers, along with freshman forward Blythe Pietryka and junior guard Annie Wethington, are poised to take on bigger roles.
Coach Taylor stressed the importance of continued development and chemistry building, as the team aims to maintain their winning momentum.
Offseason Focus: Building Skills and Chemistry
To prepare for the next season, the team is focusing on improving ball handling to fill the shoes of their primary ball handler, Alissa Young. Additionally, integrating freshmen into the team culture and strengthening chemistry are priorities during the offseason.
