As the track and field season approaches for Rio Mesa High School, all eyes are on the team and its potential for success. With a young team and a focus on covering all events, Coach Emily Hall and her coaching staff have high hopes for the team this year. We had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Hall and get an inside look at the team's top returning players, new talent to watch out for, and the strategies being implemented to lead the team to victory. Coach Hall begins by acknowledging the youth of her team, with a majority of first-time track athletes. However, this does not faze her as she is confident in their abilities and has set a main goal for the season - to cover all events, particularly the jumps. In order to achieve this goal, the team will rely on their top returning players, who Coach Hall believes will make a significant impact this year. One of these top players is Saniya Holloway, the team's top sprinter. With her speed and determination, Holloway is a force to be reckoned with on the track. But it's not just her athletic abilities that make her special. Coach Hall praises her for being a great leader and role model for the new team members. Alongside Holloway, other key returning players include C'enna Uribe, Livvy Bautista, Serena Montiel, Brooklyn Bittner, and Daniela Sanchez. Coach Hall describes them all as hard-working and dedicated athletes, who will undoubtedly play a vital role in the team's success this season. But it's not just about individual talents, Coach Hall emphasizes the importance of team support and unity. She encourages her athletes to support each other in all events and come together as a team. This is especially evident in the final race, the 4 x 400 relay, where all team members are encouraged to line the infield and cheer on their fellow runners. This sense of camaraderie and support is what drives the team to push themselves to their full potential. When asked if her coaching style differs from previous seasons, Coach Hall explains that the team is in a very competitive league - The Channel League. Therefore, the coaching staff focuses on strategizing in each event and placing their strengths in the most advantageous positions. This strategic approach will be crucial in navigating through such a tough league and securing victories for the team. In addition to this, Coach Hall also shares some changes and improvements made to the team's training and conditioning program. She emphasizes the importance of mental toughness in track and field, and therefore, the team is tested daily in practice to prepare them for the pressures of competition. This not only builds their physical stamina but also strengthens their mental resilience, essential for success in any sport. As the season approaches, the Rio Mesa High School track and field team is ready to take on their opponents and showcase their hard work and determination. With a young team, a focus on covering all events, and a supportive and strategic coaching staff, the team is poised for greatness. Coach Emily Hall and her talented athletes are determined to make their mark in the competitive world of track and field, and we can't wait to see them in action.
