As the new season approaches, the Robertsdale High School volleyball team is hard at work behind the scenes—strengthening fundamentals, building chemistry, and preparing to unleash a re-energized squad that blends veteran leadership with rising talent. Offseason Focus: Fundamentals First Head Coach Justine Fresh is starting from the ground up this offseason, with a focus on solidifying skills, especially serve-receive mechanics, as a new wave of players joins the program. “We’re working to ensure that every team member develops a solid foundation in their skills, especially as we welcome the new freshmen,” Coach Fresh shared. A key emphasis has been on comfort in passing, particularly in the seams—a foundational piece that’s crucial to match success. Offseason Events: Camps, Playdates, and Big Goals To sharpen skills and spark team growth, Robertsdale Volleyball will be active in several offseason events: Playdates at Baldwin County High School and Daphne High School UCF Team Camp in July – An exciting opportunity for the varsity squad to compete and grow together at a collegiate-level training camp. Roster Changes: New Roles, New Opportunities With the departure of four key seniors, Coach Fresh and her staff are evaluating the best positional fits for returning and upcoming athletes. “We’re figuring out where each player fits best, and how we can maximize the potential of this new group.” Players to Watch: A Senior Class Ready to Lead All eyes will be on this year’s energized senior class, a group that’s bringing fire, focus, and leadership to the court: Lola Mosley – Setter/Middle Hitter with college aspirations and a powerful court presence. Macy Smith – Setter known for her composure and consistency. Emma Dean – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist with strong two-way potential and goals to play at the next level. Karyssa Cortez – Defensive specialist and a key communicator on the court. Kyleigh Beck – Returning OH/MH who’s back after a year off, ready to make an impact. “I’m excited about what these five seniors are going to bring to the table,” said Coach Fresh. Fitness + NASA-Inspired Bonding? This offseason, Robertsdale will train with Nomad Fitness to build strength, agility, and conditioning. But what makes this year unique is how Coach Fresh is bringing NASA team-building strategies into her program. “I learned about team communication tasks from NASA’s astronaut training program at a teacher conference,” she said. “We’ll be implementing those activities with our players this summer.” Expect trust, communication, and mental toughness to be as much a part of training as hitting drills. Biggest Challenge: Belief With plenty of new faces and shifting dynamics, the challenge isn’t just physical—it’s mental. “We want them to believe. Believe in themselves and believe in their teammates,” Coach Fresh emphasized. Robertsdale Volleyball is shaping more than just athletes this offseason—they’re building a team of confident, connected, and determined young women ready to take on anything that comes their way.
