This year, the Rogers High School gymnastics team is looking to build upon the success of their previous seasons and continue to establish themselves as a top competitor in the Northwest Suburban Conference. With a strong returning core and some new talent, the team is excited to showcase their hard work and determination on the mat.
Returning for her fourth season, team captain Sadie Zachman is sure to lead the team with her experience and skill. She has already made back-to-back trips to the state tournament and is determined to bring home more medals this season. Jessica Carik, also a junior, has put in the extra work during the off-season and is ready to compete at a higher level this year.
Her dedication and determination are sure to make an impact on the team's success. But the team is not only focused on winning, they also have a strong emphasis on character development and teamwork. Coach Aly Meech explains that their primary goals are to lead with core values of respect, communication, and dedication.
These values not only help the team perform better on the mat but also teach important skills that will benefit the girls throughout their lives. With these goals in mind, the team is setting its sights high for this season. On the JV level, they are aiming to reclaim their title as NWSC JV Conference champions.
For the Varsity team, the ultimate goal is to push past their previous runner-up title and take first place at the Section 5AA Championships, leading them to advance to the state competition at the end of February. This is no easy feat, but with hard work and determination, the team believes they can achieve it.
One of the toughest opponents the team will face this season is Elk River High School, their biggest competitor in the conference. However, they are also looking forward to competing against other high-level teams at the Cretin-Derham Hall High School invite and the Hornet Classic at Big Lake High School.
These meets not only provide tough competition but also the opportunity to showcase their skills against Class A teams they don't often face during the regular season. Coach Meech's coaching style focuses on creating a positive and supportive environment for the girls. She believes in fostering passion and creativity within the sport and pushes the girls by believing in them.
