A Year of Progress and Promise The 2024 season marked a turning point for the Sandalwood High School Girls Basketball Team, as Head Coach Keasha Beard guided the Saints to a noticeably improved year marked by better chemistry, stronger fundamentals, and early momentum that set the tone. “We had a better year than last year,” said Coach Beard. “The girls matured, played better as a unit, and truly started to understand the game.” Sandalwood opened the season with four straight wins, a streak that helped build team confidence and energy for what would become a season of growth. Key Contributors Drive Development Several players stepped into larger roles and delivered throughout the year: Jah’Kyra Rodman emerged as the team’s leading scorer, developing her offensive presence as the season progressed. Kirsten Gudmalin stepped up as a floor general and leader, commanding the game from the point guard position. Cameron Craw and Jaida McNealey anchored the paint, leading the team in rebounding and helping strengthen the Saints’ growing defensive identity. Daisy Williamson also made her mark with impactful minutes and presence on both ends of the floor. Challenges Met with Resilience The team faced adversity in the form of a short bench and minor injuries, which tested their endurance and depth. Despite those setbacks, the players showed heart and commitment, staying competitive in tight situations and continuing to improve their defensive game. “We still have some ways to go,” Coach Beard admitted. “Communication and decision-making are two areas we’re targeting for improvement.” Looking to 2025 with Confidence With no graduating seniors, the Saints return their entire roster next season, including five rising seniors, and expectations are high for a true breakout year. “Next year will be a great season for us,” said Beard. “We’ll be more experienced, more mature, and ready to take the next step.” Offseason Goals As the team shifts into offseason mode, the focus is clear: Weight lifting to improve strength and physicality Fundraising to support program needs Team bonding to build even stronger chemistry off the court These efforts aim to not only elevate performance but also forge a tighter-knit team ready to face any challenge together.
