As the new season approaches, the team at Santa Teresa High School is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and challenging season. With strong returning players and promising new additions, the team is eager to put in the work and push themselves to achieve their goals. We sat down with Coach Sean Peterson to get a preview of what to expect from the team this year. Leading the pack of returning players are seniors Dahlia Daboul and Mia Hwang, along with sophomore Kayden Reynolds. Coach Peterson speaks highly of these players, highlighting their skills on the court as well as their leadership abilities. Both Dahlia and Mia possess a unique combination of talent and drive, which sets them apart as top returning players. As for Kayden, Coach Peterson believes that she is ready for a breakout season, building on her skills and gaining confidence in her game. In addition to these returning players, Coach Peterson is looking to newcomer Jayda Brown to make an immediate impact on the team. As a freshman, she has already shown impressive skills and confidence on the court, making her a valuable addition to the team. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Peterson looks for players who possess strong communication skills and dedication to the program. This year, Dahlia and Mia will be taking on this important role. As captains, they will not only lead by example on the court but also serve as an extension of the coaching staff, helping to maintain team chemistry and camaraderie. Speaking of team chemistry, Coach Peterson understands the importance of building a strong bond between players. He plans on implementing team bonding events throughout the season to foster a sense of unity and camaraderie among the team. He believes that having a cohesive team will not only result in stronger performances on the court but also create a positive and supportive environment for the players. Motivating players to push themselves to their full potential is key for any successful coach. Coach Peterson emphasizes the importance of doing things as a team and setting reachable goals. By doing so, players are encouraged to work together and strive for greatness. He also believes in using positive language and never using derogatory words towards his players, as encouragement and support are essential for their growth and development on and off the court. As for challenges in preparing for this season, Coach Peterson is focused on preparing his team for the highly competitive games ahead.
