Sarasota, FL – Coming off a strong season and returning their entire roster, the Sarasota High School Boys Golf Team is approaching this offseason with purpose and confidence. Under the guidance of Head Coach Barry Cheesman, the Sailors are focused on gaining experience and sharpening their skills in preparation for a competitive fall season. Offseason Focus: Experience, Competition, and Growth The team's offseason strategy centers on playing in as many high-level tournaments as possible, exposing players to elite competition and pressure situations. “Our focus is to get as much experience playing in tournaments against the best possible competition,” said Coach Cheesman. The team believes that these experiences will be crucial in elevating their game when the season begins. Roster Reload: Fresh Faces Join a Veteran Core The Sailors are in an enviable position—all six players from last season return, bringing with them chemistry, leadership, and momentum. In addition, the team expects to welcome two outstanding freshmen who could make an immediate impact. “The returning six are working hard to improve, and I expect them to take another big step forward this year,” Cheesman added. “Our standards are high, and the players know what it will take to reach our goals.” Players to Watch: Progress Across the Board While team-wide development remains the focus, Senior Jake MacDonald and Junior Jacob Menard have emerged as standout players to watch. Their leadership and performance during the offseason are expected to help set the tone for the entire roster. Fitness and Preparation: Building Stronger Golfers Each player is on a personal fitness plan, focusing on building strength and athleticism to improve their performance on the course. These efforts align with the team’s broader mission to become more competitive, both mentally and physically. Coach’s Vision: High Standards, High Goals Coach Cheesman is setting the bar high—not just for wins, but for preparation and performance. “Our summer goals should prepare us to get off to a good start in the fall,” he said. “We promote high expectations among individual players and push each other to compete at the next level.” Community Connection: Fueling the Fire The team’s offseason fundraising efforts have served as more than just financial support—they’ve helped build momentum and morale. “The response from the community creates excitement among the players and inspires them to work hard,” said Cheesman. Biggest Challenge: Elevating the Schedule With talent and experience on their side, the Sailors' biggest challenge may come from crafting a schedule filled with top-tier competition. But that’s exactly what they want. “We’re looking to create a schedule of high-competition events to challenge our players to compete at the highest level.”
