Under Head Coach Domonic Cruz, Southwest High School (SD) is gearing up for the 2025 football season with a focus on player development, strength training, and leadership growth. Offseason Focus: Strength & Football Fundamentals With a young team and 18 seniors graduating, the team’s main offseason priority is: Maximizing football reps to gain experience Getting bigger and stronger to compete at a high level Developing new team leaders to step up for the upcoming season Special Offseason Events & Competitions The team is looking to participate in 7-on-7 tournaments and lineman competitions to enhance skill development and build team chemistry. Notable Roster Changes Major losses: 18 seniors graduated from last year’s squad New leadership needed: The team will lean on younger players to step up and take on key roles Players to Watch Several underclassmen are making an impact and could have breakout seasons: DE Dylan Garcia (2027) – Reigning Pacific Metro League Defensive Player of the Year, excelling in the weight room and track & field OG/DT Adrian Alfaro (2027) – Most experienced lineman, having a strong offseason QB Leo Holguin (2027) – Showed promise last season despite missing half due to injury, eager to make a big comeback WR/DB Leonel Rivera (2027) – A new offensive weapon who will also contribute on defense Weight Training & Fitness Commitment The team's dedication to the offseason program is impressive, with about 90% of student-athletes participating in: Strength and conditioning sessions Track and field for speed and explosiveness Other seasonal sports to stay in shape Nutrition Guidance Players receive nutritional advice on proper diet and hydration to optimize performance. Coaching Strategies: Mastering the Fundamentals The coaching staff is keeping things simple but effective, ensuring players: Develop strong fundamentals Master the basics to gain confidence on the field Learn from every opportunity to overcome inexperience Community Engagement & Fan Support The team is staying connected through: Social media updates Community service projects to strengthen ties with supporters Biggest Challenge: Lack of Experience With so many new faces, the team’s primary challenge will be overcoming inexperience and learning how to compete at a high level. 2025 Season Outlook Despite the youthful roster, Southwest High School is laying the groundwork for a competitive season by emphasizing fundamentals, strength training, and leadership development. This year will be about growth, resilience, and building toward a stronger future.
