As the 2025 cheer season approaches, Coach Kim Ellenz and the St. John's Tipton Cheer Team are in the early stages of crafting a new squad rooted in leadership, teamwork, and school pride. While the roster is still being finalized, the focus is already clear—this year’s team will carry on the tradition of being the positive, spirited face of the school community.
Offseason Focus: Assembling the Next Generation
The offseason has been dedicated to finalizing the cheer squad, with plans to have the team set by the end of March. Coach Ellenz emphasizes that cheerleaders are more than performers—they're role models. Each member is expected to step into a leadership role, representing St. John's - Tipton with maturity, spirit, and respect both on and off the mat.
Offseason Events: Potential Shrine Bowl Cheer Camp
While plans are still being confirmed, select cheerleaders may attend the Shrine Bowl Cheer Camp, a great opportunity for skill development and bonding with peers across the state.
Graduating Leaders: Big Shoes to Fill
The team will be saying goodbye to two senior leaders who have been instrumental throughout their high school careers. Their dedication and example will leave a lasting legacy for the upcoming squad to build upon.
Rising to the Occasion: Every Cheerleader a Leader
In a sport where teamwork is everything, Coach Ellenz emphasizes that every squad member is a player to watch. Whether in the role of flyer, base, or back spot, each cheerleader is expected to bring a high level of commitment and poise, setting the tone at every game and school event.
Training & Fitness: Foundation Starts in June
Cheer practices kick off in June, and athletes are encouraged to maintain good fitness, nutrition, and weight training habits beforehand. Many squad members are also multi-sport athletes, which helps them stay in top shape year-round.
Nutrition & Wellness
While there isn’t a formal program in place, cheerleaders benefit from nutrition plans associated with their other athletic teams, supporting overall performance and wellness.
Coaching Preparation: Building from the Ground Up
With squad selections in progress, Coach Ellenz is actively preparing logistics—ordering equipment, assigning roles, and shaping the team’s strategic layout. Once roles like flyer, base, and back spot are locked in, practice routines and formations will follow.
Community Spirit: Summer Fundraisers on Deck
The team is planning a series of summer fundraisers that aim to both support the program and entertain the local community, continuing to build a strong connection between the squad and their fans.
Looking Ahead: Challenges & Growth
While the team awaits its final roster, the main challenge will be filling the leadership void left by graduating seniors and developing a strong team identity early in the season. With focused coaching and a culture of accountability, the St. John’s Tipton cheerleaders are poised to rise to the occasion.
“We expect our cheerleaders to lead by example, represent the school with pride, and keep the spirit alive—all season long.”
