Stillwater High School Varsity Baseball Team Preview

The Stillwater High School varsity baseball team is setting its sights on the ultimate prize: a 6A State Championship. With a roster loaded with talent, strong leadership, and a battle-tested schedule, the Pioneers are prepared to make a deep postseason run.  

Returning Standouts & Key Newcomers

The team boasts an elite group of returning players, led by senior shortstop Ethan Holliday, widely regarded as the top high school player in the country and a projected first-round MLB draft pick. His combination of power-hitting, elite defense, and exceptional baseball IQ makes him a cornerstone of the team. Joining him in the middle infield is sophomore Brady Holliday, a high-level leadoff hitter with a strong ability to get on base and set up the offense. His chemistry with Ethan at shortstop creates a formidable double-play duo. Senior Isaiah Smith, a key pitcher and first baseman, provides both offensive firepower and strong pitching as he prepares to play at the college level next year. One of the most exciting new additions is sophomore Kaden Twyman, a versatile catcher and first baseman with a powerful bat. As he continues to develop, he is expected to contribute significantly to the lineup.  

Leadership & Team Chemistry

While the Pioneers do not designate team captains, leadership naturally emerges among the players. The team’s chemistry is one of its strongest assets, with players spending time together both on and off the field, fostering an unbreakable bond that translates into energy and enthusiasm during games.  

Challenges & Season Outlook

Like many teams in Oklahoma, Stillwater faces challenges with winter weather limiting outdoor practice time. However, indoor training has allowed the team to stay sharp and continue preparing for a rigorous schedule. The Pioneers are set to face a demanding 6A schedule, with powerhouse programs such as Bixby, Broken Arrow, and Tulsa Union within their district. The season starts with a tough four-game stretch against Piedmont, Owasso, Jenks, and Enid, ensuring that Stillwater will be tested early and often.  

Coaching Philosophy & Mental Toughness

Coach Billy Jones and the Stillwater coaching staff maintain high expectations for both players and themselves, emphasizing accountability and consistency. While there are no major changes to the coaching approach, the team continues to refine its mental game, recognizing that baseball is as much about mental strength as physical skill. The coaching staff stresses the importance of staying composed and playing within themselves during high-pressure situations.  

Strengths & Areas for Improvement

The team’s strengths lie in its exceptional defense and pitching, which will be crucial in navigating the tough competition in 6A. However, offensive execution, particularly hitting with runners in scoring position, is an area of focus. The coaching staff emphasizes situational hitting to ensure that the team capitalizes on scoring opportunities when they arise.

With elite talent, strong team chemistry, and a rigorous schedule to sharpen their skills, the Stillwater Pioneers are primed for a successful season. If they can translate their defensive dominance into consistent offensive production, they will be a serious contender for the 6A State Championship.
