The Palmdale Aerospace Academy basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season filled with determination, trust, and camaraderie. Head Coach Bud Tapp is confident in the abilities of his team and is determined to lead them to new heights. One of the main strengths of the team this year is its group of standout returning players.
Tobi Akinsete, a senior and 3-time captain, is a returning all-league player and will be a key leader on and off the court. Gavin Epps, also a senior and 2-time all-league player, is the team's top rim protector and will bring valuable experience and leadership to the team. With these two at the helm, the team is in good hands and has a solid foundation to build upon.
But the team is not just relying on its returning players; some new players are expected to make an immediate impact. Freshman Jacob Sacopla is a promising addition to the team with his shooting skills, which the team has been lacking in previous years. Senior Johnathan Wogu sat out his junior year but is now back and ready to make a big impact.
With the mix of experienced and new players, this team has a good balance of talent and potential. In addition to talent, Coach Tapp values certain qualities in his team captains, and Akinsete and Epps exemplify those qualities. They lead by example, hold their teammates accountable, and help the younger players understand what it means to be a varsity basketball player.
With these two as role models, the team is sure to have strong team chemistry and camaraderie. But it's not just about talent and leadership, Coach Tapp also believes in constantly pushing his players to reach their full potential. The team spends a significant amount of time together during the offseason through training and team-building activities.
The players also participate in spring ball, summer workouts, and fall weight training. This not only helps improve their skills but also builds a strong bond among the players. Despite the dedication and hard work put into preparing for the season, there have been challenges that the team has faced.
As Coach Tapp mentions, great players motivate themselves and their teammates, so he focuses on creating an environment that players want to be a part of. This also means that every player needs to be self-motivated to be a part of the team.
