As the new volleyball season approaches, the RL Turner Lions are putting in the work both on and off the court. Under the direction of Head Coach Carey Murawski, the team is embracing a challenging offseason with intensity, purpose, and unity—preparing for what promises to be one of their most competitive seasons yet.
Offseason Focus: Sharpening Every Edge
This offseason, the Lions have been dedicated to a comprehensive training plan that goes far beyond basic drills. With a focus on physical fitness, vertical jump, strength, reaction time, and body control, the goal is to enhance every aspect of athletic performance.
“We’re refining skill-specific form and pushing endurance limits,” says Coach Murawski. “It’s all about elevating our total game.”
Special Events: Spring League Sparks Development
The team is gaining valuable reps through participation in the Spring League at Ranchview High School. While it's their primary offseason event, the league gives players a chance to compete, bond, and experiment in live-game scenarios.
Players to Watch: Rising Stars on the Court
RL Turner has several standout athletes to keep an eye on as the season nears:
Athena Noel
Alondra Barcenas
Addison Peeler
Sofia Dimas
These athletes have shown exceptional effort in the offseason, standing out through their dedication, growth, and commitment to team improvement.
Fitness, Team-Building, and Grit
From weight training and workout variations to sister groups, team dinners, and open gyms, the Lions are building more than just skills—they’re building chemistry and culture. These efforts are helping to create a tightly knit team with a shared vision and strong internal leadership.
Nutrition: Doing What They Can
Coach Murawski is mindful of the challenges some players face, especially within low-income households. While the team tries to incorporate nutrition education, they also recognize the limitations many families face, and the coaching staff continues to support their athletes however they can.
Coaching Approach: Adaptive and Athlete-Focused
This offseason, the coaching staff has been strategic in building systems around the strengths of current players. From play development to new training methods, every decision is athlete-centered, with an emphasis on maximizing the unique talents of the roster.
Community & Fan Engagement: Staying Visible
The Lions have remained active in their community with regular social media updates and middle school visits, helping build excitement for the program and create a strong pipeline of future athletes.
Biggest Challenge Ahead: A Brutal District Run
There’s no sugarcoating it—RL Turner is in one of the toughest districts in the state, facing off against top-tier competition, including the #1-ranked team in Texas. But Coach Murawski sees this not as a setback, but as an opportunity:
“We’re going to show up, compete, and grow with every match. The road isn’t easy, but our players are ready for the challenge.”
Final Word
With offseason momentum, rising stars, and a team-first mindset, RL Turner Volleyball is preparing for a fight. This season might be one of the toughest yet, but the Lions wouldn’t have it any other way.
