After years of transition, the Udall High School football program is finally finding its footing under Head Coach David Swanson, who is entering his second year at the helm. “Last year I was their third head coach in three years,” Swanson shares. “Now we finally have some consistency, and that gives us the opportunity to truly build something.” Offseason Focus: Strength, Consistency, and Confidence The team has been committed to the weight room, with a major emphasis on building strength, size, and speed. Many players are also multi-sport athletes, keeping active year-round and bringing athletic versatility to the gridiron. “We’re building to be bigger, faster, and stronger,” says Swanson. “The focus is on doing what winning programs do.” Summer Camp & Offseason Plans Udall will be hosting a summer football camp this year and is also exploring opportunities to attend external camps to help build team chemistry and gain valuable reps before the season starts. Stability on the Sidelines, Growth on the Field With a full year of Coach Swanson’s system under their belts, the team is aiming to take a major step forward in 2025. The benefit of familiarity with play calls, terminology, and coaching style should pay off in the fall. Players to Watch Thanks to a youth movement last season, several players gained early experience and are poised for breakout years: Jace Harness (SO) – Quarterback Phillip Webb (JR) – Running Back / Defensive Back Hayden Green (SR) – Offensive & Defensive Line Pete Barton (JR) – Running Back / Linebacker Roman Arnoldy (SR) – Linebacker / Tight End These players represent the core leadership group and are expected to lead both by performance and example. Challenges Ahead Udall is working to shake off past struggles and reclaim a winning culture. “We need to learn to win again,” Swanson says. “But we’ve got a tight-knit group of boys, and I truly believe they’ll rise to the occasion. I’m excited to see all of the hard work show on the field.”
