The Uniondale High School Girls Volleyball team is entering the Fall 2025 season with a mix of returning talent, young potential, and a hunger for redemption. After a promising start last year, the team fell just short of the playoffs due to self-doubt and inexperience.
However, with key returning players, a strong JV pipeline, and a renewed focus on development, the Knights are determined to make their mark this season.
Offseason Preparation & Team Development
With the loss of two dominant middles and their All-County Honorable Mention setter, Uniondale's primary focus this offseason has been filling those gaps. The program is benefiting from a deep JV squad, giving underclassmen an opportunity to step up. Unlike last year, the team will have full access to its gym, allowing for better preparation and more structured training.
Key Players to Watch
Despite the roster turnover, Uniondale has a strong core of returners and promising young athletes who could break out this season:
Zahara Saintyl (Senior, Captain, Utility Player) – A versatile force on the court, Zahara has played right side, outside hitter, and now middle. Her leadership and all-around skill set make her a player to watch, as she is expected to lead the team in kills and be one of the top players in the conference.
Cindy Blanco (Senior, Libero) – With three years of varsity experience, Cindy is a rock in serve receive and has been a key leader in the program, even helping train middle school players in the offseason. Her experience and defensive skills will be invaluable.
Jahshelle Papin (Sophomore, Middle) – A rising star who has started two years on JV, Jahshelle was on the verge of being called up last year but was held back due to a crowded position group. She is now poised to be a varsity starter and will play a key role in filling the middle blocker void.
Melanie Saravia (Sophomore, Setter) – With two years of JV experience, Melanie is stepping into the crucial setter role, replacing the team’s graduated captain. Expectations are high for her to lead the offense and establish chemistry with the hitters.
Aaliyah Rose (Senior, Outside Hitter) & Kylie Thompson (Senior, Opposite Setter) – Two experienced varsity players who will provide offensive firepower and stability.
Ariyanna White (Senior, Utility Player) – After transferring last season, Ariyanna finished strong and could play a key role in the upcoming season.
Biggest Challenges & Mental Toughness
The Knights’ biggest challenge isn’t just their competition—it’s themselves. Last season, after a 5-0 start, the team was in prime position for the playoffs but struggled with self-doubt and inexperience, leading to a losing streak that derailed their momentum.
With a conference full of teams featuring multiple club players, Uniondale is working to bridge the gap through offseason workouts and skill-building. If the Knights can stay confident, trust their training, and perform under pressure, they have a real shot at making the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
What to Expect in 2025
Uniondale is hungry for success, and while they face roster challenges and a tough conference, their depth, leadership, and offseason preparation put them in a strong position to compete. With a mix of veteran leaders and rising underclassmen, the Knights are looking to prove they belong in the postseason conversation.
Can they take the next step and make history? Stay tuned for an exciting 2025 season!
