As the start of the new high school basketball season approaches, the Valley Catholic High School team is gearing up for an exciting and successful year. We had the opportunity to speak with Coach Jeb Ivey about the team's goals, strengths, and preparation for the upcoming season. With a clear focus on character, communication, and a consistent work ethic, Coach Ivey is confident in his team's ability to compete at the highest level and make great strides throughout the season. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Ivey responded with enthusiasm about his senior class. They had a strong showing as juniors and are eager to continue their success this year. The returning senior players are known for their leadership, hard work, and dedication to the team. Coach Ivey also pointed out that every member of the team will play a valuable role in their success, showing the depth and camaraderie of the group. While the returning seniors provide a solid foundation for the team, Coach Ivey also has high hopes for the new players who will be joining the team this season. He believes that each member will bring something unique and valuable to the team, and their strengths will contribute to the team's overall success. When asked about the qualities he looks for in potential team captains, Coach Ivey emphasized the importance of character, communication, and consistency. These are traits that he hopes to instill in all his players, but especially in those who will take on leadership roles. While he has not yet determined the team captains, he believes that all members of the team have the potential to be leaders both on and off the court. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial aspects of any successful team. Coach Ivey plans to foster this bond through open and positive communication, as well as encouraging his players to remain calm and composed under pressure. These qualities will not only benefit the team on the court but also in the classroom and in their personal lives. For Coach Ivey, the biggest challenge this season will be motivating his players to push themselves to their full potential. He believes that the motivation must come from within the players themselves, as they are ultimately the ones who will determine their level of success.
