Viewmont High Swim Team Makes Waves in Historic 2025 Season

Winter Sports Recap Series | 2025

The 2024–2025 swim season was nothing short of phenomenal for the Viewmont High School swim team. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jessica Trauner, the team not only posted impressive individual and team results but also built a culture rooted in dedication, excellence, and fun. With a deep and talented roster and a senior class that led by example, Viewmont cemented its place among the top swim programs in the state. As Coach Trauner wraps up her tenure before passing the torch to incoming coach Stephanie Breinholt, she leaves behind a team that has made an undeniable splash this winter—and one that's poised for even greater things to come.

Podium Powerhouses: Key Contributors Lead the Way

Viewmont’s success this season was driven by a core group of standout athletes who consistently delivered top-tier performances, especially at the UHSAA State Championships. Seniors Isaac Hale, Andrew Webster, Thomas Chamberlain, and Henry Helgesen were central to the Vikings' dominance in the pool. “These four got us podiums in a majority of our events at state,” said Coach Trauner. “They broke several team records and showed a huge amount of dedication throughout the season.” Leading the charge was Isaac Hale, who capped off his final season in historic fashion. “He never lost a regular season event,” Coach Trauner noted proudly. Hale’s consistency, competitive edge, and poise under pressure made him the team’s go-to swimmer across multiple events. Sophomore Thomas Chamberlain also made headlines, obliterating a longstanding school record at the region meet and signaling that Viewmont’s future is just as bright as its present. His performance and progression have made him one to watch moving forward.

A Season to Remember: Highlights and Dominance

From start to finish, the season was filled with high points for the Vikings. The team’s regional meet served as a turning point, as Viewmont nearly swept every event, showcasing its depth, skill, and preparation. “It was a great season,” Coach Trauner summarized. “At the regional meet, we were in a position where we won nearly every event.” This dominance carried through to the state level, where multiple swimmers reached the finals and stood on the podium against some of Utah’s top competition. Viewmont's presence in the relay events was especially noteworthy. Thanks to strong contributions from veterans and rising stars alike, the team placed all three relays in finals at state, a significant accomplishment that underlined their versatility and unity.

Rising Stars Step Up: Underclassmen Contributions

While the senior class led the way in leadership and performance, underclassmen also made their mark in a big way. Coach Trauner highlighted two names that fans and competitors should remember: Landon Hopfenbeck and Gus Stockhoff. “These two underclassmen stepped up big time in relays and individual events,” said Trauner. “Because of their involvement, we had all three relays in finals at state and swept relays in our region meet.” Their ability to rise to the occasion and thrive under pressure bodes well for the program’s future. Their development during the season not only strengthened the team’s performance this year but also laid a strong foundation for the next wave of Viewmont swimming talent.

No Setbacks, Just Momentum

Unusually for a high-level sports program, Viewmont’s season was refreshingly free of injuries or major setbacks. The key? Preparation, discipline, and year-round commitment. “We didn’t have any this year,” said Coach Trauner. “These athletes have truly been in the pool year-round to have a successful season. They just made it fun.” This consistency in training and health allowed the team to stay focused and maintain momentum throughout the year. It also speaks to the team’s maturity and dedication—characteristics that carried them through grueling practices, early mornings, and the rigors of competition.

Seniors Set the Standard

The 2025 senior class leaves behind a powerful legacy. Their energy, resilience, and unrelenting drive helped define this chapter of Viewmont swimming. “They just brought an endless amount of dedication,” said Coach Trauner. “They were always up for a challenge and wanted to win just as much as I wanted it for them.” Seniors like Hale, Webster, Chamberlain, and Helgesen didn’t just lead with their times—they led with their actions, their attitude, and their example. Their imprint on the program will be felt for years to come.

Building for the Future: What’s Next

Though the 2025 season was full of success, Coach Trauner was clear-eyed about what lies ahead for Viewmont swimming. The top priority? Building more team depth. “We want to increase team depth so we can compete against bigger teams,” she explained. With key seniors graduating, filling out the roster with strong, versatile swimmers will be crucial to maintaining and improving the team’s competitive edge. Fortunately, the team appears well-positioned for continued success. With underclassmen like Hopfenbeck and Stockhoff gaining experience and confidence, and a strong training culture already in place, Viewmont’s future looks promising.

A New Era Begins

As Coach Trauner steps down, she does so on a high note, leaving the program in excellent shape for her successor. Starting next season, Stephanie Breinholt will take over as Head Coach, ready to lead the Vikings into their next chapter. Final Thoughts

The 2025 season was a showcase of what hard work, preparation, and team unity can accomplish. With record-breaking performances, a strong showing at region and state, and a culture that thrives on fun and focus, the Viewmont High swim team delivered a year to remember. And while Coach Trauner may be passing the baton, her legacy of leadership and excellence will continue to ripple through the waters of Viewmont for seasons to come.
