Moreno Valley, CA — The 2024-25 season was one for the history books at Vista Del Lago High School, as the Girls Soccer team captured both the CIF Southern Section title and the CIF State Regional Championship — the first time any athletic team at the school has accomplished either feat. Historic Season Highlights Under the guidance of Head Coach Chris Morfin, the Ravens not only won their league title for the first time since 2018 but also shattered records by securing the school’s first-ever CIF titles in any sport. From the start of league play, the team adopted the RAVENS values as their north star. Although their league opener didn’t end in victory, it marked a turning point. A renewed sense of unity and belief led to a dominant run through league and postseason play, culminating in the ultimate prize — a State title. Key Contributors Coach Morfin emphasized the importance of every player's contribution, but several standouts helped shape the championship journey: Freshman Goalkeeper – Made crucial saves throughout the postseason, quickly establishing herself as a cornerstone of the defense. Defensive Core – Juniors Leeanna Gonzalez and Jasmin Osio, along with seniors Blanca Martinez and Nancy Valle, developed a tight-knit, trap-based defense that disrupted opponents all season. Freshman Wing Araceli Thomas – Excelled at both ends of the field with relentless effort. Junior Wing Irma Damaso – Notched 6 assists and 7 goals, including the game-winner in the CIF Southern Section title game. Senior CDM Kassandra Rios – Delivered all season with 16 goals, 11 assists, and goals in both CIF title games. Senior CAM Daya King – A standout playmaker with 28 goals and 8 assists, including key scores in both championships. Strikers Angeli Bolanos and Andrea Ordonez Combined for 19 goals and 11 assists, bringing dynamic attacking power to the front line. Mental Toughness and Championship Grit The Ravens’ path wasn’t without adversity. Tough early-season losses only strengthened the group’s resolve. Their resilience showed especially in the CIF State Regional tournament, where they won three consecutive away matches under intense pressure. Senior Legacy and Future Outlook This senior class left a legacy of leadership, energy, and excellence. With 15 players eligible to return next season, Coach Morfin is confident in the future. “They’ll come back with a winning mentality, knowing that hard work and commitment pay off,” he said. Offseason Focus The offseason will emphasize fitness and both offensive and defensive explosiveness to maintain the program’s high level of play.
