Westlake High School Football Season Preview Offseason Focus This offseason, the Westlake Demons have zeroed in on building toughness and developing leadership across the roster. A new addition to their program called “Demon Days” has added intensity to workouts, challenging players physically and mentally while strengthening team unity. Special Offseason Events While not attending external camps this year, Westlake is placing a strong emphasis on in-house team bonding. Activities like a team movie day, park outings, and non-football games during summer lifts are all designed to create camaraderie and fun within the program. Notable Additions & Departures There’s a new era underway at Westlake: Quarterback Shift – For the first time in three years, the Demons will have a new starting quarterback. Junior Mo Abdelhady has earned the spot after a standout sophomore season and significant offseason progress. Key Coaching Changes – Big additions include Jake Fowler stepping in as Defensive Coordinator and Brent Neibecker, a veteran coach, taking over the DBs. Assistants Brandon DiMarco and Jared Paul also join from Lutheran West. Westlake fans should keep a close eye on Jake Ostrowski, a rising player expected to make a major impact this season. Players to Watch Several Demons have been putting in the work and are poised for breakout seasons: Wes Urich – Has made huge gains in the weight room and physical development. Geno Woods – Another offseason standout showing serious commitment and improvement. Stephen Trowbridge – Added significant strength heading into the new year. Mo Abdelhady – The new QB1 has impressed coaches with growth and maturity. These athletes have embraced the offseason challenge and are setting the tone for the rest of the team. Coaching Perspective With a refreshed coaching staff, the Westlake program has focused on unifying strategy and philosophy. Coaches have spent extensive time in planning sessions and also gained insights from attending clinics and a spring practice at the University of Toledo, reinforcing their approach with top-level exposure. Fan Engagement & Community Impact Offseason engagement is tricky with so many multi-sport athletes, but the team is making efforts to document and share team events through photos to keep the community involved and connected. Biggest Challenges Ahead The biggest challenge facing Westlake is replacing 90% of its total offense and tackles following the graduation of standout leaders Sam Brucchieri and Chris Campbell. The team will face stiff competition internally, with position battles across the board expected all summer long. Coach Yantek’s message is clear: This Westlake team is gritty, driven, and building from the ground up. With leadership emerging and a new identity forming, the Demons are preparing to make some noise in 2025.
