As the spring season approaches, the Wichita County Jr/Sr High School track and field team is gearing up for another successful year. Head coach Admin Admin sat down with us to provide a preview of the team for this upcoming season. Coach Admin is excited about the team this year, with eight seniors leading the charge. These seniors have been on the team for all four years of high school and have a deep understanding of the sport, the coach's expectations, and how to work hard for success. The coach has high goals for this team, not only in terms of athletic achievements but also in terms of the impact they can make on their teammates and supporters. The boys team has a strong group of returning athletes, with some notable standouts. Simon Medina, a senior thrower, has placed second and sixth in shot put at the state meet in previous years, with a personal record of 51’9.25”. Another senior, Wyatt Gardner, is a versatile athlete who can excel in relays and middle distance races. Christopher Michel, also a senior thrower, unfortunately was injured at regionals last year but is looking for redemption this season. Brandon Price, another senior thrower, has proven to be a valuable asset in the discus event. And junior Juan Tapia, who also competes in shot put, is an up-and-coming athlete to look out for in the next two years. Junior Max Whitham is another key contributor to the team, excelling in middle-distance relays and javelin. On the girls' side, sophomore Marcy Baker and Delaney Biel will be leading the throwing team, while McKenzie Porter, a sophomore sprinter, will be a force to be reckoned with in the 100, 200, and relays. Breanne Ricke, another sophomore, will continue to improve as a distance runner and will also contribute to the 4X800 relay team. Jentri Porter, a versatile sophomore, has proven herself in the 300 hurdles, pole vault, and on the 4X800 relay team. Junior Michelle Gallegos is a standout middle-distance runner and will be a key member of the 4X800 and 4X400 relay teams, which both qualified for state last year. Other notable members of the girls' team include Clara Koehn in hurdles, Samantha Medina in sprints and relays, and seniors Sidney Biermann and Anna Simons leading the throwing events.
