Roseville, CA — The 2024–2025 season marked a turning point for Woodcreek High School Boys Soccer, as the Timberwolves claimed the CVC League Championship for the first time in decades, made it to the Division II Section Finals, and earned a spot in the NorCal Regional Playoffs. “It was a very strong season,” said Head Coach Shaun Hilton. “We had a senior-heavy squad with a core group that had been playing together for years. They set a new standard for the program.” Standout Contributors Leadership and experience were at the heart of Woodcreek’s success: Ty Branigan (Senior, Midfield) – A complete midfielder and team captain, Branigan brought scoring ability, smart distribution, and tireless defensive effort. Vince Noble (Senior) – A constant offensive threat, Noble gave opposing defenses headaches throughout the season with his attacking instincts. Jacob Nereson (Senior, Center Back) – The anchor of Woodcreek’s defense, Nereson evolved into a lockdown presence, often keeping the Timberwolves in games until the offense took over. Aaron Millsap (Senior) – Stepping into the goalkeeper role after a preseason injury to the starter, Millsap’s emergence was a critical storyline. A natural field player, his performance in goal was both surprising and essential. Turning Point After a shocking 3-0 league loss to Vista Del Lago early in the season, the Timberwolves rebounded by defeating defending league champion Inderkum High School 2-0. That victory sparked an eight-game undefeated run in league play, setting the tone for a season of grit and resilience. “That Vista Del Lago game was a wake-up call,” Hilton said. “We weren’t outplayed, but we were outscored—and that was all that mattered. The response to that loss was everything.” Team Culture & Senior Legacy This senior class laid the foundation for success, leading with heart and unity. “They brought quality, ability, and incredible collaboration,” said Hilton. “They gave everything they had.” The Timberwolves also endured adversity with poise, handling pressure situations, tight matches, and even injuries with calm confidence. “We kept our heads up and stayed committed to our style of play,” Hilton added. Looking Ahead The future of Woodcreek soccer looks bright. With returning varsity players and talent rising from the JV and Frosh-Soph squads, the bar has been set. “This team showed the younger players what’s possible,” said Hilton. “If they put in the same work with the same attitude, they’ll continue this success.” Offseason Focus While Coach Hilton hopes the team gets some well-deserved rest, development will continue with an emphasis on goalkeeping and goal creation, largely in collaboration with club programs.
