Worthington Kilbourne Golf: Depth, Talent, and High Expectations for 2025 Offseason Focus: Competition and Continuous Improvement While many high school programs spend the offseason in training mode, the players at Worthington Kilbourne are already deep into competitive play. Those not involved in spring sports are sharpening their skills by competing in junior tournaments across Ohio and neighboring states. “Our players are tournament golfers,” said Head Coach Gavin Meeks. “Their commitment to the game never stops.” Busy Tournament Schedule Across Top Junior Circuits Though too numerous to name individually, team members are actively participating in high-level events hosted by AJGA, GolfWeek, COGA, and other major junior golf organizations. These events not only refine skills but also boost exposure and college recruiting prospects. Roster Continuity with Key Addition to Coaching Staff In a rare advantage, Worthington Kilbourne’s varsity squad remains fully intact from the 2024 season. To strengthen the program even further, Coach Jay Addy is joining the staff to lead the Varsity B team—an important move for developing emerging talent and managing depth. Players to Watch: Experience Meets Internal Competition Returning leaders include: Mac Ferguson Gavin Troiano Drew Deken Ryan Walton Ben English These five set a high bar, but Cole Beckett and Howie Dennis, who competed on the Varsity B squad last season, are pushing hard for varsity spots in 2025. With eight or more players capable of shooting 75 or better, internal competition will be fierce—something Coach Meeks sees as a good problem. Training and Nutrition: Letting the Game Do the Talking While the team doesn’t focus heavily on structured fitness or nutrition programs, that’s by design. “We’ll continue to do what we do,” Meeks stated. “Our players are highly skilled. Our job as coaches is to give them the opportunities to play and compete. From there, we trust their game.” Staying Engaged with Fans and Families Team communication and engagement are supported by a dedicated parent who runs the team’s social media channels—keeping fans, families, and the community connected during the offseason and throughout the competitive season Looking Ahead: Managing Talent is the Next Big Challenge With a roster rich in ability and depth, Coach Meeks knows that managing playing time will be one of the season’s toughest tasks. “Our challenge this year isn’t finding talent—it’s making sure we reward the right players with the right opportunities. We could realistically have over eight guys consistently posting scores in the 70s.” With that level of internal competition and the return of a full varsity lineup, Worthington Kilbourne is poised for another standout season—with eyes on both team and individual accolades.
