In our first official season as a girls wrestling program, Alta Loma High School made an unforgettable debut, setting records, building a foundation, and leaving a mark that will be felt for years to come.
Key Contributors
Two athletes stood out as pillars of our success this season:
Jaslyn Martinez was the rock of our team. Her toughness, discipline, and relentless work ethic set the tone every single day. She led by example, bringing an intensity to practices and matches that elevated everyone around her.
Gwen Lopez emerged as a breakout competitor. Gwen brought unmatched energy and grit, especially in critical moments, and showed tremendous heart throughout the season. Her rise was a major factor in our team's success and in establishing the foundation of our program.
Season Reflections
For a brand-new team, the growth we experienced was incredible. We had more girls qualify for CIF than ever before — a major milestone that highlighted just how far we had come. From the first day to the final tournament, our athletes not only improved as wrestlers but also grew together as a supportive, unified team.
We didn’t just participate — we competed and made sure people knew Alta Loma Girls Wrestling had arrived.
Player Growth
One of the season’s standout stories was Delaney McGowan’s development. Starting the year simply trying to find her footing, Delaney transformed into a confident, aggressive competitor who stepped up as a leader both on and off the mat. Watching her evolution was one of the proudest moments of the season.
Responding to Challenges
Wrestling is never easy, and this team faced its share of adversity — injuries, tough losses, and pressure-packed matches. But through it all, the girls showed heart and resilience. They leaned on each other, stayed tough, and kept grinding, embodying the spirit of a true wrestling team. Their response to adversity set the tone for what our program will stand for moving forward.
Senior Leadership
Our seniors were invaluable. They brought maturity, energy, and a deep love for the sport that helped establish our program’s culture. Many had prior wrestling experience and used it to mentor and guide the younger athletes. They modeled hard work, focus, and joy, creating a team environment that was both competitive and welcoming. Their impact will be felt for years to come.
Future Outlook
The future is incredibly bright. With a young, hungry team returning — now with postseason experience under their belts — the sky’s the limit. These athletes have tasted success and are motivated to achieve even more.
Even more exciting is the culture we’re building: one that empowers young women in a sport that is growing rapidly but has not always been inclusive. As a former high school and collegiate wrestler myself, it’s incredibly meaningful to be leading this movement. Watching these athletes find strength and confidence through wrestling is why I’m so passionate about this program’s future.
Offseason Goals
This offseason, we’re focusing on:
Sharpening technique in scrambles and mat wrestling.
Improving overall conditioning and mental toughness.
Strengthening team culture, ensuring every athlete knows they belong and can achieve greatness.
