The 2024-25 season will become a historic year for Bard High School Girls' Basketball. Under the leadership of Head Coach Derrick Falletta, the team clinched its first-ever SEC Conference National Division Championship, shattered school records, and laid the foundation for a promising future. Season Overview Just a year after breaking the school's win record with 13 victories, Bard raised the bar again with an impressive 19-7 record, a new all-time high for the program. The turnaround has been nothing short of remarkable for a team that had never played more than 13 games in a season just a few years ago and held a 28-65 record in its first decade. Key Contributors Takyiwah Otoo (Freshman) – Bursting onto the scene, Otoo scored 386 points, setting both the Bard freshman and single-season scoring records. Her ability to lead as a freshman was instrumental in Bard’s success. Matenin Camara (Center) – A dominant interior presence, Camara added 343 points and an incredible 375 rebounds, anchoring the team in the paint on both ends of the court. Ceana Jones (Senior) – Despite missing several games due to injury, Jones tallied 249 points and was a vital contributor to the team’s offensive and emotional energy. Defining Moment The team’s defining achievement came in setting the new single-season win record at 19 victories—a powerful statement for a program rapidly rising in stature. That milestone not only marked a turning point for the season but also for the school's basketball history. Player Growth Takyiwah Otoo emerged as a standout leader, even in her first year. Her maturity, scoring ability, and competitiveness were essential in pushing the team to new heights. Senior Impact Led by players like Ceana Jones, this senior class played a foundational role in Bard's evolution. Their leadership, perseverance, and dedication helped create a culture of success that will continue to shape the program long after their graduation. Looking Ahead With rising stars like Otoo returning and the momentum of a record-breaking season behind them, the future is extremely bright for Bard Girls’ Basketball. Coach Falletta and his staff are excited about the program’s trajectory and the continued growth of their young core. Offseason Focus The team will look to build on this season’s success by sharpening skills, improving team chemistry, and preparing the next wave of contributors to step into larger roles.
