With the start of the high school baseball season just around the corner, the anticipation and excitement for the upcoming year is building. For the team at Basehor-Linwood High School, this season is one of high expectations and goals. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Admin Admin about what fans and supporters can expect from the players this year. Entering his third season as head baseball coach, Coach Admin Admin has seen consistent improvement each year and is determined to continue that trend. The ultimate goal for the team this season is to make a jump to the state tournament. When discussing the top returning players from last year, there is a sense of excitement and pride in Coach Admin Admin’s voice. One of the standout players is senior Nash McCarty, who has committed to play at KCKCC next year. Another senior, Brady VanDonge, will be back as the center fielder, known for covering ground from gap to gap and having a consistent ability to make great contact at the plate. The team also has a strong junior class with catcher Will Howard, who has started for the team since his freshman year and is known for his exceptional hitting abilities. He is joined by Trey West, who has developed into a solid leader and anchors down shortstop with his arm talent and range. Junior Garrett Pierce, who led the team in offensive categories last year as a sophomore, has developed into the backbone of the team with his versatile skills on the infield. Sophomore Nate Martin started last season in the outfield and impressed with his strong arm and range, and he is expected to make a bigger impact this year. Another sophomore, Steven Zimbelman, will be returning as an infielder and pitcher, with his smooth fielding and powerful swing. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Admin Admin looks for players who embody key qualities such as bringing energy, battling adversity, and playing for each other. He believes that these qualities will be important in developing strong team chemistry and camarader
