The 2024–25 season was a remarkable ride for Big Walnut Girls Basketball, finishing with a 23–4 record and a hard-fought state semifinal appearance, where they narrowly fell in overtime to the eventual state champions. Along the way, the team set multiple school records and laid the foundation for what promises to be an even more dominant future. Star Power & Rising Talent Big Walnut’s success was fueled by standout underclassmen Sydney Mobley and Remy Largent, both members of the Class of 2027. Sydney Mobley anchored the paint with physicality and consistency, dominating the boards and interior scoring. Remy Largent, a deadeye shooter, set a high bar from beyond the arc, already rewriting the school record books with two years still to play. Both athletes are poised to compete at the collegiate level and bring elite basketball IQ and leadership to the court. Returning senior Lexi Federer, the team’s poised floor general, will be key to maintaining tempo and structure next season. Record-Breaking Season Big Walnut not only made a deep playoff run, but also shattered numerous school records, including: Points in a Game Rebounds in a Season Three-Pointers in a Season Points in a Season Career Threes (with two years left for the record-holder) A highlight was the revenge win over Westerville South—a team that had beaten them twice during the regular season—in the regional championship, showcasing growth, grit, and team unity. Adversity & Response The team’s toughest loss came in the state semifinal, a three-point overtime heartbreaker. But instead of deflating the team, it served as motivation. “It’s thrown fuel on a fire that was already there,” said Coach Largent. “They work hard and they’re already focused on what’s next.” Leadership & Legacy Senior Denza Allen, the team’s third-leading scorer and leader in steals and blocks, leaves behind a legacy of intensity and impact. “She brought big energy and will be deeply missed,” Largent added. Looking Ahead The future of the program is bright. “These girls are serious about basketball and their goals,” said Coach Largent. “They know that March to October is where real progress happens, and they’re all in.” Offseason Focus Heading into the offseason, the team is focusing on: Replacing Denza’s rebounding presence Attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line Sharpening defensive execution Where to Find Stats: Available upon request from Coach Carey Largent.
