Blue Valley High School Girls Basketball Season Preview

The 2024-25 season will go down as one of the most memorable in Blue Valley North girls basketball history. Under the leadership of Head Coach Ann Fritz and an exceptional senior class, the Mustangs delivered a near-perfect season, capturing the Eastern Kansas League (EKL) title with an undefeated record and going on to win the Kansas 6A State Championship. A Culture of Excellence On and Off the Court This year’s team wasn’t just dominant—they were disciplined, resilient, and united. With six outstanding seniors, all members of the National Honor Society, the team fostered a culture grounded in academic excellence, leadership, and work ethic. Coach Fritz credits this success to a village of support: from committed assistant coaches to supportive administration and engaged parents. “Our program is about the culture we create to help kids succeed,” Fritz emphasized. Elite Competition Builds Championship Poise The Mustangs didn’t shy away from elite competition—five of their opponents went on to play in state championship games, including Missouri state champion Incarnate Word and 5A Kansas champion St. Thomas Aquinas. These battles forged the Mustangs into a team that could overcome adversity and thrive under pressure. Individual Greatness in a Team System While the team’s success was rooted in collective effort, several players delivered standout seasons: Jaliya Davis: Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year, McDonald’s All-American, DiRenna Award winner, and KU commit, Davis broke the school’s all-time scoring record. Aubrey Shaw: A Harvard commit, Shaw shattered the school’s career records for three-pointers made and rebounds. Delia Gregory: A Princeton track commit and the EKL Defensive Player of the Year, Gregory consistently locked down opponents’ top scorers. Ashley Alverson: The team’s engine at point guard, known for her energy and leadership on the floor. Jada Farrington: A multi-sport standout and Abilene Christian soccer commit, brought athleticism and competitiveness to the court. Senior Legacy and What’s Next Coach Fritz couldn’t speak highly enough of her senior class: “All 4.0 students, leaders, multi-sport athletes—they knew how to win and how to lead.” Their impact extends beyond this season and has firmly embedded a championship mindset into the program. With 18 state tournament appearances now under their belt and a mantra that “Tradition Never Graduates,” the Mustangs look ahead with confidence. The returning players are hungry to uphold the standard and bring the same intensity and unity to next year’s campaign. Offseason Goals This offseason, the focus is on continued growth—coming together, improving individual skills, and building the team chemistry necessary to make another deep postseason run.
