Coming off a strong 2024 campaign, Charlotte Latin Football heads into 2025 with plenty of momentum—and a few big shoes to fill. With an offseason dedicated to strength, speed, and finding the next wave of playmakers, Head Coach Drew Dayton and his staff are focused on reloading rather than rebuilding.
Offseason Focus: Strength, Speed & Skill Position Gaps
The Hawks’ offseason has centered on their strength and conditioning program, along with participation in winter and spring 7-on-7 competitions. With their top five wideouts and defensive backs having graduated, a major emphasis has been placed on developing the next core of contributors in the secondary and receiving corps.
Key Returners to Watch: Talent in the Trenches and Under Center
Despite the departures, Charlotte Latin returns a deep and talented group of players who are primed for breakout seasons:
Troy Logan (QB) – Threw for over 2,300 yards and 25 TDs last season. The 2nd Team All-Conference selection returns as the offensive leader.
Banks Cutter (TE, 6'4", 220) – A mismatch nightmare with size and skill, expected to play a major role in the passing game.
Matthew Barber (OL/DL, 6'3", 270) – 1st Team All-Conference, an anchor on both sides of the line.
Trent Barber (OL/DL, 6'3", 250) – 2nd Team All-Conference, another key presence up front.
Matthew Flynn (OL/DL, 6'4", 230) – A rising name in the trenches with upside.
Myles Gathers (LB, 6'0", 220) – One of the team’s most physical players, 2nd Team All-Conference.
Dallas Chapman (LB/RB, 6'0", 185) – Versatile and relentless, Chapman will be a force on both sides of the ball.
Training Philosophy: Marines, Speed, and Focus
Charlotte Latin starts every season with a bang by bringing in local U.S. Marine recruiters for a high-intensity team workout. The team also incorporates the "Feed the Cats" speed training program, ensuring their athletes are as fast as they are strong.
Nutrition Support: Professional Guidance
Athletes at Charlotte Latin benefit from access to a local nutritionist, providing guidance on fueling properly for performance, recovery, and growth.
Coaching Strategy: Stability & Innovation
With every coach returning for 2025, continuity remains a strength of the program. But that doesn’t mean complacency. The staff continues to visit colleges and programs to study new techniques and strategies that can be implemented at the high school level.
Culture & Community: Year-Round Support
Charlotte Latin’s culture is fueled by one of the most engaged communities in the state. From parent involvement to student spirit, the football program receives unwavering support. Annual traditions like the Men’s Breakfast and Latin Ladies Clinic keep the community connected and invested, even in the offseason.
Biggest Challenge: Filling the Leadership Void
With the Class of 2024 graduating, the Hawks will need to replace the leadership and production that helped guide last year’s squad. Still, Coach Dayton is confident: “We have a great group of rising seniors and underclassmen ready to take on that responsibility.”
