Thank you for all the support and always cheering on our boys, they thrive on their supporters. Watch out for Chino Hills High School this season, we are coming for you! Go Huskies! As the days get longer and the sun gets warmer, it can only mean one thing – spring sports are in full swing at Chino Hills High School. One team in particular that has been making waves in the past year is the boys' volleyball team. With their impressive season last year, the team is gearing up for another successful run. We sat down with Coach Michael Rodriguez to get an inside look at what the team has in store for this season. Goals and Keys to Success Coach Rodriguez has high hopes for his team this year. Their goals include competing at a high level, winning their league, making a deep run in the playoffs, and hopefully qualifying for state. But what will be the key to their success? According to Coach Rodriguez, it all comes down to unity. The team must work together and support each other both on and off the court. Top Returning Players With a strong core of returning players, the boys' volleyball team looks to be a force to be reckoned with this season. Three players, in particular, stand out as top returners – Sean Spicer, Sonnyboy Matavao, and Ethan Tsao. Spicer, a sophomore, was an integral part of the team's offense as a freshman last year and has since improved his IQ for the game. Matavao, returning as a senior, is known as the glue that keeps the team together and is proud to represent his motherland of Samoa. Tsao, also a senior, adds to the team's dynamic and brings a sense of fun to every practice and game. Qualities of Team Captains When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Rodriguez looks for players who can stay level-headed in any situation and put the team and others before themselves. This year, the captains will be Sean Spicer, Sonnyboy Matavao, and Daniel Barker. Each brings something different to the team – Spicer's calm demeanor, Matavao's unifying presence, and Barker's ability to keep everyone on track. Creating Team Chemistry As for team chemistry and camaraderie, Coach Rodriguez believes the boys will create this for themselves.
