With the new volleyball season approaching, Clements High School is setting a strong foundation during the offseason under the leadership of Head Coach Madelyn Frost. Despite a smaller training group due to multi-sport athletes, the commitment and energy have been unwavering, laying the groundwork for a season built on stamina, leadership, and team cohesion.
Offseason Focus: A Commitment to Growth
Coach Frost has prioritized building endurance, fostering leadership, and strengthening team dynamics. With just five athletes training this offseason—three upperclassmen and two freshmen—the focus has been on maximizing effort and developing a culture of accountability. Through challenging conditioning drills and intentional team-building exercises, the girls have cultivated a supportive and motivated environment. Upperclassmen have stepped up as leaders, mentoring younger teammates and reinforcing the program’s values.
“This group is setting the tone for the rest of the team,” said Coach Frost. “Their dedication is going to inspire everyone around them to push themselves harder.”
Summer Camps and Competitive Playdates
The Lady Colts have a packed summer schedule that promises both skill development and team bonding. From July 8-9, the team will participate in the Munciana camp at the Supreme Courts in Guntersville for JV and varsity squads. On July 15, they’ll attend the Elkmont playdate, followed by the Munciana Middle School camp on July 16. The program is also planning two home camps on July 19 and 26.
“These events aren’t just about learning volleyball,” Frost emphasized. “They’re about growing as a team and strengthening our bonds on and off the court.”
Departures and a New Chapter
The team bids farewell to key seniors, including standout middles Shakarri Bailey and Kaley McEwen, and setter Carly Nave—players who were instrumental in on-court execution and team morale. Additionally, long-time team manager La'Shelle Redus will be missed for her invaluable behind-the-scenes contributions.
In an exciting development, Coach Noles has joined the program as the Head Middle School Coach, allowing Clements to expand its roster and begin grooming young talent early—a major step forward for long-term program growth.
Players to Watch
Several players are already turning heads. Michela Sands and Audra Gover have been balancing club volleyball and school workouts with impressive discipline. Michela, also a soccer athlete, consistently makes time for the weight room, showcasing her all-around dedication.
Meanwhile, Lily Middlebrooks has emerged as a vocal leader, guiding younger players and helping to maintain the team’s culture of accountability. With tryouts just around the corner, Coach Frost is confident that more breakout performers will emerge.
Training & Nutrition: Wellness-First Approach
This offseason, the team is placing a new emphasis on recovery, stretching, and smart training. Players have embraced group workouts, motivating each other to be at their best physically and mentally.
On the nutrition side, Coach Frost is setting the example. She provides water-intake reminders and shares meal plans to guide athletes in making smart dietary choices.
“If I’m going to ask them to do something, I’m doing it too,” said Frost. “That accountability matters.”
Coaching Perspective: Growth Through Leadership
Coach Frost and her staff are evolving with their team, aligning coaching methods to the athletes’ learning styles and creating leadership opportunities. This dual responsibility—coaches holding players accountable and vice versa—has built a strong trust system.
“This culture of mutual respect and communication is something we value deeply,” Frost explained.
Community Connection
Clements volleyball is also finding ways to strengthen ties with its fanbase through fundraising efforts that not only support the program but also teach athletes humility and gratitude. Coach Frost views community engagement as an integral part of player development.
“Every contribution matters,” she noted. “Our girls are learning to give back while also growing as individuals.”
Looking Ahead: Embracing Change and Opportunity
While the loss of influential players presents a challenge, Coach Frost is optimistic. The team will need to rally, embrace new leadership, and step confidently into the roles vacated by graduates.
“It’s up to each player to step up,” she said. “We’re here to guide them, but they hold the power to shape what this team becomes.”
As the Clements Lady Colts prepare for the upcoming season, the message is clear: with the right mindset, unity, and dedication, they are poised to rise stronger than ever.
