With a successful district championship and a return to the regional tournament last season, the expectations are high for the College Station High School volleyball team this year. We had the opportunity to speak with Coach Keisha Thiebaud about the team's goals and expectations for the upcoming season.
Coach Thiebaud has been at the helm of the program for the past five years and is hoping to continue their success this year by building and improving upon last year's achievements. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Thiebaud mentioned that the team lost a lot of seniors but is looking to rely on their returning players to lead the way.
The team's standout player this year is junior setter, Blair Thiebaud. At 6'1", Thiebaud brings a physical presence to the team's 5-1 offense. She is known for her pinpoint accuracy and her ability to lead the team on the court. "Blair is a great natural leader who makes our team go," Coach Thiebaud stated. Thiebaud has also committed to playing volleyball at the University of Louisville, showcasing her talent and potential.
In addition to Thiebaud, Coach Thiebaud also mentioned two other players who she believes will make an immediate impact on the team this season. Haley Nash, a senior, will be taking on the role of libero this year and is expected to excel in serve-receive and make good reads from the left-back position. Meanwhile, senior right-side hitter, Addyson Green, returns with a heavy arm, adding strength to the team's offense.
When it comes to team captains, Coach Thiebaud looks for players who possess qualities such as character, commitment, sacrifice, and effort. These players also need to have a strong leader's mentality and be willing to make decisions that benefit the team. This year, the team's captain and role model is junior setter, Blair Thiebaud.
"Blair possesses many of the qualities we value at CSHS," Coach Thiebaud stated. "She is consistent in these qualities and is also a passionate, talented competitor."
Chemistry and camaraderie are vital components to a successful team, and Coach Thiebaud is well aware of this. As a coach, she values finding the right mix of players to build a cohesive unit.
