As the new lacrosse season approaches, Coach Rick Starratt is gearing up his team at Crescenta Valley High School for what is sure to be an exciting and challenging season. With high ambitions and a talented group of players, Coach Starratt shares his thoughts, goals, and expectations for the team this year. "Our ultimate goal is to win our league and make it back to the playoffs," says Coach Starratt. This is no small feat as the competition in their league is fierce. But with determination, hard work, and a strong team dynamic, the Falcons are eager to take on the challenge. The key to success, according to Coach Starratt, is a combination of skill and team cohesion. "We have a group of players who possess a great lax IQ and a strong understanding of the game," he says. "But more importantly, they are all great leaders and work well together on and off the field." Among these leaders are the Lunt brothers, Nelson and Quincy. Both seniors, they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. Coach Starratt describes them as "the backbone of the team" and attributes much of the team's success to their leadership. "They both have a great understanding of the game and are able to read and react quickly on the field," he says. "But more than that, they provide a positive influence on their teammates, setting an example of hard work and dedication." Another player to watch this season is senior goalie, Matt Kubela. "Matt's experience and skill in goal gives our team a sense of confidence," says Coach Starratt. "He also brings a level of maturity to the team as one of our captains." With a strong presence in the goal, Kubela is sure to be a key player in helping the Falcons achieve their goals. As for new players, Coach Starratt has high hopes for freshman goalie, Griffin Barnes, and sophomore attack, Wyatt Stucker. "Both of these players have shown great potential in the preseason," he says. "We believe they will make an immediate impact on the team and contribute greatly to our success." When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Starratt looks for players who possess a combination of skill and leadership qualities. "They need to be able to lead by example and command respect from their teammates," he explains.
