The anticipation for another exciting season of high school baseball is building, and to get a closer look at what we can expect from Derby High School this year, we sat down with Coach Admin Admin. Dedicated and passionate about his team, Coach Admin Admin shared with us his goals, key players, and challenges for the upcoming season. When asked about his goals for the team this year, Coach Admin Admin's focus was on improvement and success. "My goals are the same every year," he stated. "I want to finish the season as a better team than when we started." However, he also acknowledged the high expectations that come with being a part of the Derby High School baseball team. "Obviously, the team goals are to win our league, playoff games and then a state championship," he added. The team boasts a strong roster this year, with returning players and some up-and-coming talent. Senior Colten Ruedy, who plays outfield and first base, was an All-League and All-State selection last year with an impressive batting average of .407. Another senior, Caden Riojas, is an All-League outfielder with a .326 batting average. Sophomore Rowan Foster, who plays second base and is a right-handed pitcher, received Honorable Mention All-League honors with a .268 batting average. On the pitching side, seniors Max White (left-handed pitcher) and Nick Martinez (right-handed pitcher) both have valuable experience, with White pitching 41 innings with an impressive 1.72 ERA and Martinez pitching 17 innings in relief last season. Coach Admin Admin also mentioned the players who may not be as well-known, but are crucial to the team's success this year. Senior Colby Morgan, a right-handed pitcher and shortstop, was injured halfway through last season but is expected to make a big impact this year. Coach Admin Admin believes his performance will be key to the team's success. Another senior, Ethan Crawford, will have big shoes to fill as he takes on the role of catcher and right-handed pitcher, replacing a graduated player. Despite his limited playing time last season, Coach Admin Admin is confident in Crawford's abilities. Junior Calvin Pryor, who plays third base and is a right-handed pitcher, is also expected to step up and become an everyday player for the team. To prepare for the upcoming season, Coach Admin Admin plans to continue with the team's tried-and-tested approach of team dinners and communication.
