The Fairmont Preparatory Academy basketball team is gearing up for another exciting season filled with high expectations and competitive challenges. With a strong focus on teamwork and determination, the team is ready to take on their ultimate goals of winning the league, CIF, and a State Championship. Starting off with a strong foundation of top returning players, the team has a solid core to build upon. Senior point guard, Oliver Jones, and junior standout, David Abisogun, are ready to lead the charge.
Jones, known for his exceptional leadership both on and off the court, is a true extension of the head coach. His communication skills and ability to keep the team motivated make him a valuable asset to the team. Abisogun, a 6'10 powerhouse, is the team's top player and has already received several offers from Division One schools. His talent and unselfishness make him an invaluable member of the team.
He leads in scoring, rebounds, and blocks, and his ability to communicate on the court sets him apart from other players. In addition to the top returning players, the team has some new additions who are expected to make an immediate impact. Marcus Fernandez, a transfer from Sonora High School, brings with him a wealth of experience and outside shooting skills.
His leadership and experience will help the team tremendously. With such a skilled and cohesive team, it's no wonder that junior players Jones and Abisogun have been chosen as team captains. Their leadership, commitment, and love for each member of the team make them the perfect role models for their teammates. Building team chemistry and camaraderie is a priority for Coach Joedy Gardner and his staff.
They believe that a strong bond between teammates is crucial for a successful season. To achieve this, the team participates in various team-building activities and spends time together on and off the court. The trust and support they have for each other are reflected in their strong teamwork and on-court performances.
One of the biggest challenges in preparing for this season has been teaching the players time management skills. Being a part of Fairmont Preparatory Academy, the "Stanford of high schools," academics are a top priority for the team. Balancing schoolwork and basketball can be tough, but the team understands the importance of prioritizing their academics and staying focused both on and off the court. The team's schedule for this season is filled with tough opponents that will put them to the test.
