The Girard High School track and field team is gearing up for the upcoming season with high hopes and aspirations. We sat down with Coach Matt Logue to get a preview of what we can expect from the team this year. As they strive for success in the league meet and state competition, the team will rely on the experience and leadership of their top returning players. On the Girls side, Ainsley Norton, Aiden Sisney, Zoee Montgomery, Claire Stevens, Jeremiah Adolph, and Maggie Niggeman all bring experience as state qualifiers from last year. On the Boys side, Corbin Owen, Drake Kotzman, Houston Mcgown, Seth Wilson, Mason Adolph, and Gabe Onelio will lead the charge with their state meet experience. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Logue looks for qualities such as experience, selflessness, and leadership ability. He believes that these traits are essential for creating a strong team dynamic and promoting individual growth. While it is still early to assign this title to any players, Coach Logue is confident that the right candidates will emerge as the season progresses. To build team chemistry and camaraderie, the team will rely on the hard work and competition that they bring to the track every day. Coach Logue believes that through this process, chemistry will naturally develop amongst the team. They will also focus on promoting a positive and supportive team culture, encouraging players to motivate and push each other to reach their full potential. When it comes to motivation, Coach Logue doesn't rely on any special tactics or methods. Instead, he stresses the importance of hard work and competition, which naturally fuels the drive and determination of his players. He believes that the mental aspect of the game is crucial, and it is up to each athlete to find their own motivation and push themselves to their full potential. As with any team, preparing for the season has its challenges. For the Girard High School track and field team, the biggest challenge has been the loss of their 2021 track season due to the pandemic. However, the team is determined to make the best of the upcoming season and hopes to continue building upon previous successes. Looking at the team's schedule, it is clear that they have a strong competition ahead of them. Coach Logue acknowledges that tough competition will only make his team better, and they will seek out challenging opponents to push their athletes and help them reach new heights.
