Golden Valley High School, located in Merced California, is gearing up for the upcoming football season. This year, they have a new head coach, Coach Will Cross, who is bringing a fresh perspective and a new approach to the team. We sat down with Coach Cross to get some insights into the team and what fans can expect this season. Q: Can you tell us a little about your coaching background and how you ended up at Golden Valley High School? A: I have been coaching for over 10 years at various levels, from youth leagues to high school. Before coming to Golden Valley, I was the offensive coordinator at a nearby high school for five years. When I heard about the opportunity at Golden Valley, I knew I wanted to be a part of shaping a new program. Q: What made you choose Golden Valley High School? A: For me, it was the potential of the program and the community. Golden Valley has a strong tradition in academics and I saw a lot of untapped talent on the football team. I also appreciated the support of the parents and the overall culture of the school. Q: How have the players reacted to having a new head coach? A: As expected, some players were a little hesitant at first. Change can be difficult, especially for high school students. But overall, the players have been very receptive and eager to learn and improve. They have embraced our new strategies and have shown a strong work ethic in practice. Q: What can we expect to see differently from the Golden Valley High School football team this year? A: This year, we are focusing on building a strong team culture and instilling a winning mindset. We want to establish a sense of unity and trust among the players, and create an atmosphere where they can thrive and reach their full potential. On the field, we will have a more dynamic and versatile offense, and a more aggressive and disciplined defense. Q: Are there any standout players on the team that fans should keep an eye on? A: We have a talented group of student-athletes, but there are a few players who have stood out during our offseason training. On offense, we have senior quarterback Jack Thompson, who has a strong arm and great decision-making skills. On defense, we have junior defensive end Tyler Jenkins, who has exceptional speed and agility. I also want to mention sophomore running back Marcus Garcia, who has been turning heads with his explosive speed and agility.
