The anticipation for sports season is always high at Homestead High School, and this year is no exception. With the return of beloved head coach, Monica Villa, the expectations are high for the school's sports teams. Coach Villa has been a staple at Homestead for years and has helped lead multiple teams to success. As the school gears up for another exciting year, we caught up with Coach Villa to get an inside look at the team and what we can expect to see this season. Q: How are you feeling about the team this year? A: I am feeling incredibly optimistic about the team this year. We have a strong and dedicated group of athletes who have been working hard all off-season to improve their skills. I am confident that we have what it takes to have a successful season. Q: What kind of pre-season preparations has the team been doing? A: Our pre-season preparations have been intense. We have been focusing heavily on conditioning and team bonding exercises. We have also been working on refining our skills and implementing new strategies to stay ahead of our opponents. Overall, the team has been putting in a lot of hard work during the off-season to prepare for this year. Q: Are there any key returning players that we should keep an eye on? A: Yes definitely! We have several key returning players that will be crucial to our success this year. On the football team, senior quarterback, Max Johnson, has been a standout player since his freshman year and has continued to improve each season. On the volleyball team, senior outside hitter, Sara Hernandez, is a force to be reckoned with on the court. She has an impressive skillset and is a natural leader on the team. Q: Are there any new additions to the team that you are excited about? A: Yes, we have a few new additions to the team this year that I am really excited about. On the soccer team, sophomore midfielder, Emily Nguyen, has proven to be a standout player during tryouts and pre-season practices. She brings a lot of speed and agility to the team and I am looking forward to seeing her in action this season. On the basketball team, transfer student, Jake Garcia, has joined us from another school and has already shown great potential during our open gyms. He adds depth and talent to our already strong team. Q: How do you plan on maintaining the success of the teams this year?
