As the new head coach of the Huntington Beach High School Boys Lacrosse team, Coach Cody Schuesler has big plans for the upcoming season. With a fresh coaching staff and a focus on changing the culture of not just the program, but also the players' lives, the team has set out to achieve some lofty goals. In this article, we will dive deeper into Coach Schuesler's vision for the team, the key players to watch, and the challenges they will face along the way. Coach Schuesler's ultimate goal for the team this season is to change the culture of the program. He believes that by emphasizing values such as respect, time management, and work ethic, not only will the team become better lacrosse players, but also better individuals. This fresh start for the team is seen as a turning point in their journey, with the potential for great success. Leading the way for the team this season are some top returning players, including junior attackman Will Minter and defender Brandon Soleau. Minter, last season's top scorer and assist leader, is a crucial part of the team's offense. His ability to work with fellow scorer Noah Walker makes the team a formidable opponent. On the defensive end, Soleau's size, athleticism, and skills make him a force to be reckoned with and a key player to watch. But it's not just the returning players who will make an impact this season. Coach Schuesler also has his eye on Servite transfer Danny Gabel, a sophomore with a powerful shot and great lacrosse IQ. Gabel's skills on the field are sure to make an immediate impact and contribute towards the team's success. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Schuesler looks for players who can be an extension of himself on and off the field. They should be timely, vocal, and always thinking ahead. These qualities not only make for good leaders in the team, but also guide the players in all aspects of their lives. The selection for team captains is ongoing, with players who possess these attributes being considered for the role. Another important aspect of a successful team is chemistry and camaraderie. To foster this, the team will participate in various team bonding events throughout the season. With a large roster of over 60 players for both varsity and junior varsity teams, these events will help them come together as a family and improve their teamwork on the field.
