As the new softball season approaches, the Huntington Beach High team is gearing up for what they hope will be a successful and fruitful season. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Jeff Forsberg about the team's goals, returning players, new additions, and strategies for the upcoming season. Here is a preview of what you can expect from the Huntington Beach High softball team this year. Coach Forsberg's overall goals for the team this season are focused on playing their best softball and peaking during the playoffs. He emphasizes the importance of handling stress throughout the season and having the whole roster in peak condition to make a strong run in the postseason. The keys to success, according to Coach Forsberg, are the health of the players and the focus of the entire team. The team has a strong group of returning players that will be crucial to achieving their goals. This includes Zoe Prystajko, a senior pitcher who will be heading to Stanford after graduation. Liah Lummus, a senior shortstop, has committed to Loyola Marymount University, while Saige Anderson, a senior third baseman, has committed to UC Santa Barbara. Ashly Long, a senior outfielder, will be playing at the University of Nebraska Omaha, and Macy Fuller, a senior second baseman/outfielder, has committed to Cal State San Marcos. Juniors Cali Bennett, Morgan Drotter, and Tea Gutierrez are all experienced players who have had previous success on the field. When asked about new players who will make an immediate impact, Coach Forsberg mentioned Willow Kellen, Maleah Humble, Emma Johnson, and Georgia Gruber. Gruber is a transfer student from Orange Coast College and will be playing pitcher for the team. Coach Forsberg believes that all of these players will bring a lot of talent and contribute to the team's overall success. In terms of team captains, Coach Forsberg has chosen Macy Fuller, Liah Lummus, Zoe Prystajko, and Morgan Drotter as the leaders for the team. He values players who are respected by their peers and can add value to the team. In addition to these official captains, there is also a team manager, Jessica Flores, who plays an important role off the field for the team. One of the key factors in the team's success, according to Coach Forsberg, is the team's unique and solid culture.
