As the new season approaches, Coach Dave Domelle of Kennedy High School (Fremont) is ready to lead his team to success. After a challenging season last year, the team is determined to compete at a high level and make a run in the playoffs. Coach Domelle sat down with us to give a preview of the team and share his thoughts on the upcoming season.
One of the biggest strengths of the team this year will be the return of top players from last season. These players not only contribute on the court, but they also bring leadership and experience to the team. Coach Domelle highlighted the importance of these players and their impact on the team. “Senior Omar Mojaddidi, our 6’8” post player, came on strong toward the end of last season and will need to continue to be a force around the basket,” he said.
Mojaddidi’s presence in the paint will be crucial for the team’s success. Along with Mojaddidi, juniors Cash McDowell and Jaden Roman will also be key players to watch as they continue to improve and take on larger roles in the team’s offense. Their development and growth will be important for the team’s success this season.
In addition to the returning players, there are also some new additions to the team that are expected to make an immediate impact. Senior Henry Cheng, who did not play last season, will bring his experience and skills to help facilitate the offense and play in the off-guard position. Sophomore Yujin Moon also has an opportunity to step into the starting point guard role and contribute to the team’s success.
When it comes to selecting team captains, Coach Domelle looks for players who have high character and are committed to the team’s success. These players lead by example and put the team’s needs before their own. The team captains are chosen by the team itself, reflecting the importance of team chemistry and togetherness. Speaking of team chemistry, Coach Domelle emphasized the importance of building camaraderie among the players.
The team participates in team dinners where they put away their phones and take the time to get to know each other. This helps create bonds and a sense of belonging among the team. They also have a charity event that players are expected to attend, promoting teamwork and service within the community.
