The La Costa Canyon High School wrestling team is gearing up for another exciting season as they strive to continue their tradition of excellence both on and off the mat. With returning top wrestlers and promising new talent, Head Coach Dwayne Buth is confident that his team will make waves in the upcoming competitions.
The top returning players from last season include state qualifiers Sam Weinberg and Shane Ito. Both wrestlers are known for their relentless work ethic and lead by example, making them valuable assets to the team. Their dedication and determination will undoubtedly set the tone for the rest of the team. In addition to these returning wrestlers, numerous other athletes will be vying for state qualifications this year.
This includes Tanner Doyle, Nathan Mun, Luka Bojicic, Lawson Fry, Luke Menzimer, Skylar Groke, and Jason Lin. Coach Buth believes in the emergence of leaders, and with such a talented and hardworking group, the team is sure to have strong leadership throughout the season. Team chemistry and camaraderie are vital on and off the mat, and Coach Buth recognizes the importance of building a strong bond among his players.
He believes that team captains should not necessarily be the best wrestlers but rather individuals who have the potential to be leaders. Doyle, Weinberg, and Ito are expected to step up and lead the team this season. Motivation is key to pushing athletes to their full potential, and Coach Buth has developed a unique way to inspire his team. On the first day of practice, the team plays paintball, and family members are also invited.
This fun activity is a great way to start the year on a positive note and get everyone motivated for the season ahead. Despite challenges with paperwork and scheduling, the team is looking forward to an exciting season with a strong schedule. They will be participating in the LCC Classic "Jimmy Hamada Invitational," which brings in over 50 teams from across the country, providing tough competition for the team.
Coach Buth knows that this will be a challenging but beneficial experience for his wrestlers. Coach Buth's coaching philosophy centers around building champions, both on and off the mat. He believes that wrestling not only prepares athletes physically but also mentally for the challenges that they will face in life. His focus on positivity, motivation, and building leaders is reflected in his team's gameplay, and he hopes that this will lead to success both on and off the mat.
