It was a year of growth and grit for the Lacrescent Boys Basketball team, as first-year head coach Erik Wuensch stepped in late and guided the Lancers through a season of learning, development, and memorable moments. Sharpshooting and Dominance on the Boards The Lancers leaned heavily on standout performances from Berkley Mlsna and Ryan Nutter. MLSNAs lit up the scoreboard with 19 points per game and etched his name in the record books with 83 made 3-pointers, a new school record. Meanwhile, Nutter was a consistent force inside, averaging a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds per game. Adapting to Change and Building Momentum Taking over the program late meant a quick turnaround for Coach Wuensch and the team. “Putting in a new system was hard for the players at the beginning of the season,” Wuensch admitted. But with each game, the Lancers adapted, improved, and built a stronger identity. An Instant Classic A defining moment of the season came in a dramatic double-overtime thriller against Fillmore Central. The Lancers needed a three-pointer at the end of regulation to force OT—and another buzzer-beater triple in the second OT to seal the win, highlighting the team’s clutch potential and resilience. Senior Leadership Coach Wuensch praised the eight seniors he inherited, calling them “terrific young men” who brought character, leadership, and maturity to the team during a transitional year. Looking Ahead With key returners who gained their first varsity experience this year, the future looks promising. “I’m looking forward to next year,” said Wuensch, who sees untapped potential in a group that now has a year of experience under its belt. Offseason Goals The top priority this offseason? Getting bigger and stronger, according to Wuensch, as the team aims to raise its physicality to match its growing skillset.
